Sony 40w600b or LG 42lb6310? Which one is better?
« on: Aug 14, 2014 at 02:57 PM »
Planning to buy a new tv. My old tv is a 32" sony bravia which is 7 yrs old so Im planning to upgrade this year. My budget is P30-35k.
This 2 tv's caught my interest.
Sony 40w600b and LG 42lb6310.
Reliability wise I owned both an LG monitor and a sony tv for 7 years and there still working well today so I like the reliability of both companies.
The Sony 40w600b is only 60hz refresh rate but has Motionflow XR 200.
So is that the soap opera effect?
I thought only 120hz and up tv's have the soap opera effect and this tv only has 60hz.
While on the LG 42lb6310 I have no idea on the refresh rate? Anyone know this tv refresh rate?
Which of the two do you think is better?

Those are my two choices as well when buying a led tv. You can turn off motion flow for sony and trumotion for LG. That would not produce soap opera effect. LG 42LB6310 i believe is a 120hz panel. When watching regular cable I turn on trumotion. When it comes to watching movies I turn it off.

That would not produce soap opera effect. LG 42LB6310 i believe is a 120hz panel.

I had a tough choice between the two. The PQ on the sony is really really good. For me  better than the LG. LG's PQ is not that bad and it was good for me especially after calibration. Features plus the 2 inch size difference goes to LG. So in the end I went with LG and

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the LG one because I saw some reviews that say the Sony 40w600 is slow.
Screen takes 20-30 sec to change video inputs and takes 10 seconds to change channels but after a while speeds up. But after turning the tv OFF for 1hr then turning it ON the slow cycle repeats again. They say the picture quality is great though.
While the LG one has a fast smart tv interface the webOS, 120hz and 42 inches. The say the picture quality is only good.
Will have to see it in shops then to make my decision.

I have the 40W600b.

The good:

1. Very good picture especially HD content.
2. The sound from the stock tv speakers are also good as well.
3. Source change is quick.
4. Power consumption when in Eco mode is only 25watts (55watts non-eco mode).

The bad:

1. Noticeable color fade when watching at the sides.
2. External power brick.
3. TV antenna port is directed downward. This can be remedied by buy a antenna connector that is angled.
4. Onboard digital tv tuner not compatible for PH use. Uses DTV2 standard.
