Titans
« on: May 15, 2015 at 08:54 AM »

With DC filling up TV with lots of series based on their comic book properties, what's one more? Announced last year, TNT is developing a live-action series based on DC's Teen Titans; the title was formerly called Titans, but is now being referred to as Blackbirds. The pilot, which is being co-written by Akiva Goldsman, includes a line-up featuring Nightwing, Oracle, Raven, Starfire, Hawk & Dove. Casting is supposed to be announced this summer.

Recently, TNT head Kevin Reilly has issued an update regarding the series:
Quote
"I sat down with Akiva and said — and he ultimately agreed — that the [TV] landscape right now is well-serviced on the superhero front. So what space is this going to inhabit? And really what he wants to do is be very true [to the source material]. [It] was a groundbreaking property when it first started.

There were consequences to things that happened; it wasn't somebody died and they moved on. There was the first superhero to be an addict [in Roy Harper's Speedy]. It's a coming-of-age story for Robin, who feels like Batman has betrayed him. I think it's going to end up being a very, very interesting offering. I think it's going to be excellent."

While the TNT deal didn't push through, Titans is still going forward; the live-action Teen Titans series will now be one of the launch series of a new Warner Bros and DC Entertainment streaming service that will debut in 2018.

Titans will now involve production and writing duties from the creative team of Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Sarah Schechter. The series follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe, where Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.

Just guessing, but maybe because the effects work required will be too expensive for the series' allotted budget....hehe....

‘Titans’: Anna Diop Cast As Starfire

24: Legacy alumna Anna Diop has landed one of the leads, the series-regular role of Starfire, in the new live-action series Titans, from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros TV. She joins Australian newcomer Teagan Croft, who was cast as another lead, Raven, in the series that’s slated to premiere in 2018 as part of the inaugural slate of a new DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service.

Diop’s Starfire (aka Koriand’r) is an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, she has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.

Brenton Thwaites is Robin in Live-Action Titans

DC Entertainment has announced that the cast of their live-action Titans series has found its leading man with Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Gods of Egypt) set to play Dick Grayson, aka Robin, in the upcoming series.

“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have,” executive producer Geoff Johns said. “Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”

‘Titans’: Alan Ritchson Cast As Hawk In DC Live-Action Series

Alan Ritchson is set as Hawk in the new live-action series Titans, from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros TV, which is slated to premiere in 2018 as part of the inaugural slate of a new DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service.

Ritchson will play Hawk, aka Hank Hall, one half of the crime-fighting, vigilante and romantic couple of Hawk and Dove. The perfect example of opposites attract, Hawk is an aggressive, offensive bruiser, while Dove is strategic, defensive and lithe. The role is recurring, with an option to become a regular in Season 2. I hear the producers also are exploring a potential Hawk and Dove spinoff series down the road.

Apparently Beast Boy is included in the Titans roster....

Ryan Potter is Beast Boy in Titans Live-Action Series

DC Entertainment has announced that actor Ryan Potter has joined the cast of the live-action Titans series in the role of Beast Boy. This isn’t Potter’s first forray into superheroes, however, as he voiced Hiro Hamada in the Big Hero 6 animated film and its upcoming television series.

As a child, Garfield “Gar” Logan contracted the lethal disease, Sakutia, while on an African expedition with his geneticist parents. Treated with an experimental drug, Gar survived but not without developing some bizarre side effects. Along with skin and hair turning permanently green, the wisecracking, fun-loving Beast Boy is able to reshape himself into any animal of any size he can imagine.

Fan-favorite DC characters Donna Troy and Jason Todd have been confirmed to appear on the first season of the Titans live-action series.

The confirmation came this afternoon from producer Geoff Johns during his spotlight panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Both Donna Troy, long known as Wonder Girl, and Jason Todd, the second Robin, have been long rumored for the DC Universe series, but neither had been confirmed

Dark and gritty - just like DC wants it :) Good thing this will also come out before The New Mutants movie. Hope this finds it way to a locally accessible streaming service.
