ZDAN's Dedicated Home Theater Build
« on: May 30, 2015 at 08:48 PM »
Hi guys,

Finally back on track. Construction started almost two months ago, my contractor is now finishing the walls of my ht room which is located at the second floor of my house extension. I will be posting pix soon.

PJ just arrived today, Audio Visual Drivers Inc. made a good bargain so I decided to get the Sony 55es.

I would appreciate inputs from those who have tried using Sony 55es on a 135" curved screen. I hope it will work well.

I have B&W 7.1 speakers which has been sitting in the storage room for more than a year now after my first HT room got flooded. I'm planning to upgrade soon, anyone tried 9.X.X atmos set up?

Hi marlon welcome to the gallery, sorry to here about your flooding problem but as you say that looks to be in the past.
Your room is the same size as my finished dimensions & I find it about right.
I couldn't find suppliers for Fiber Glass here in Cebu so used Rockwool from Insuphil - a lot cheaper than Erwin Allen.
I used Green Glue from Erwin Allen for the acoustic sealant, excellent product but very expensive at P1500 a tube (380ml).
RSIC clips & furring channel, again couldn't find a supplier & was not prepared to wait delivery from the UK or US. I improvised using my own form of isolation.
The carpet & underlay I can't help you with as I brought mine with me from the UK.
My thread is a sort of step by step build of my room, you may get a few pointers & I'll be happy to help if you have any queries.
Good luck with your journey to audio & visual nirvana   ;) :)

Good day sir!

Thank you for your inputs. I will be using rockwool too, found a supplier in Cebu which is closer to me and will surely be less expensive for the freight.

I will also get my GG as well as the "serinity mat" from Erwin.

Thank you for your offer sir, I really appreciate our forum members for sharing their thoughts and experiences.

My room is located on the 2nd floor of the now being built extension of my house. Im planning to set three rows (first row: recliner seat; 2nd and 3rd rows: 5-chair cinema seat each).

I already bought my upgrade for PJ and I'm planning to upgrade my AVR to Onkyo's 3030. Planned set up (existing is 7.1) is either 9.2.2 or 7.2.4.

Basically now, I need advice what wood to use for my ceiling joists, wall studs and as well as for the stage and riser. Since i didn't find local supplier for resilient clips and hat channel I think im going for a staggered stud wall.

Your comments will be highly appreciated.

Thanks again sir :)

I don't see any problems using Sony hw55es with 135" curved screen.
As long as both are properly positioned and mounted, they will work.
Based from my experience coming from Sony hw40es, I'm sure that the Sony hw55es will have superb picture quality no matter what screen you will project it to...
The "Reference" mode's out of the box setting is already awesome so you will not have problems with regards to calibration...

I have B&W 7.1 speakers which has been sitting in the storage room for more than a year now after my first HT room got flooded. I'm planning to upgrade soon, anyone tried 9.X.X atmos set up?

I'm running a 9.1.2 Atmos Set up and very happy with the results.
Just a little advice on speaker choices, go with the same series of speakers... if you have the B&W 600 series then get overhead speakers with the same series for seamless integration ;)

Thanks for your comments Sir Louie, just an excited newbie here :) Yeah, will probably be using 600 series for the in-ceiling.

Btw, mind sharing the placement of your speakers specially for the in-ceiling?

Finally decided to just cover the rooftop instead of just an open deck. On the 2nd floor is the HT room, 3rd floor is a snack bar/multipurpose area. Planning to put up pop corn maker, etc to have a feel of a movie house snack bar.

This is the proposed stairway leading to the HT room.
