Thanks. I wouldn't have bought it new that's for sure.

Offhand, here's the Major differences vs. the XiaoMi Mi Box (current firmware) which also uses Android TV OS;

- support for frame rate switching like 59.94/23.976

Google na lang for those who don't know why it's significant. Nakaka nosebleed i-explain ha ha ha.

- Nougat specific advancements to Android TV such as App Switching & PIP for Live Channels.

I've been able to get these on the Mi Box but the firmware is officially still not released.

- Mounting NAS drives

This is significant. Allows one to mount not just drives attached via USB ports but also NAS type network drives. Mucho easier for those who have existing NAS (Synology, QNap etc) content. No wonder Plex users love the Nvidia Shield.

- Amazon Prime Video pre-installed.

This isn't possible using the Xiaomi at the moment. I dunno why though coz' iFlix was available on all.

- Rootable.

All though I have not tried it. Lots of information out there how to do it for the Nvidia Shield TV. Personally, I only root the chinese boxes as my comfort zone allows me to be brave enough to risk bricking them. This one... no way muna :)

The Mi Box has a locked (and encrypted bootloader) and there's never been a base firmware recovery for them so no way to root the Mi Box.

- Improved HDMI CeC control

On the Mi Box, I could never power up the box and include the TV/AVR (I could power off everything though). On this one possible to just power up the shield and it powers up AVR and TV.

- Nvidia

Well Duh? This is a gaming rig. The bulk of the cost is putting together a box with the graphics horsepower of Gaming PCs. Although I am NOT a gamer, the excessive processing power just ensures the box runs media fast (really fast) so decoding any video and audio codec currently known is possible without any hiccups (as long as your lan/internet can keep up).

The controller is also considered "Pro" level quality so that means mas mahal talaga components used.

@scifi-fan,

Sir, I bought my 2015 NSATV second hand for 8,500.00, already with the gamepad and controller. How much were you able to purchase yours? Just curious, if I had a good bargain....

My NVSTV has issues with wifi or internet connection. While it says that I am connected to wifi, yet no internet connection is possible. Btw, it is connected to an ASUS router which is connected to the Pldt modem. This is not the first time this happened. Now planning to have a LAN connection with the ASUS gigabit router thru RJ45 Cat6. My question is: would a cat6 gigabit LAN connection be faster than a wifi AC connection?

Note all my Android phones and tablet
can have access to internet thru wifi

yes a hard wire internet connection is much stable than wifi.

My NVSTV's wifi is back and working. I tried to research about the wifi issue and it turned out to be a known bug in our devise. hopefully this will be addressed in the new updated firmware 5.2. finger-crossed.......

Nvidia shield basically uses location services to determine the Wifi channels that works/allowed in your country.

If I remembered it correctly. Wifi issues was being fixed by disabling  location services. Or manually configuring the wifi channels in your router.

Since my Nvidia Shield TV has wifi issues, I want to consider this if it is a possible solution:

I have a Tenda AH302 range extender, which get wifi signal from my Asus Router (RT N18u). Can I use the LAN port of the Tenda to connect to the LAN port of the Nvidia Shield TV? I hope I get myself clear since I am not quite familiar with networking....

Sir, sa MiBox 3 (Xiaomi International version) there are apps na pwede and in fact pre-installed like Sling, Pandora, Vudu, Hulu, yet not available sa NVSTV, bakit ganon? Diba they are of the same class- Android TV Setup Box?

^ Hindi naman marketed as international version ang shield tv e, iniimport lang natin mula sa US kaya ang programming nya pang US pa din. Di tulad ng mibox na international e locally available na dito kaya readily accessible na mga region locked apps
