Hi! Anybody else have problems with mkvs/remuxes/untouched blurays with VC-1 codec? Whenever I play movies with that codec, it stutters once in a while. Tried playing 2 different copies of The Dark Knight and both of them would stutter. Same with Gran Torino. I use SPMC btw. Any solutions to this? TIA

sige sir. Usually may problem lang ang VC-1 codec kapag remux/untouched mkvs pero kapag 1080p encodes wala naman problem.

finally had the time to unbox mine. had less of an incentive, as all of a sudden, the QNAP NAS I had been using as the player started passing thru Atmos again (my best guess is an HDMI handshake issue that got resolved after a few reboots)

Decided to use this for the bedroom setup to replace an underpowered Remix Mini PC (Kickstarter funded) that I had previously been using. That was able to run Kodi, but I noticed stuttering with some 4K material, despite being on a gigabit connection

Initial thoughts?

Would've been great to have the remote bundled, as the game controller is a bit clunky to use (when not really playing games). Unfortunately I didn't get to buy the discounted bundle

Also had issues with range using my Logitech K400R keyboard. Seems like a common issue where the frequency it used conflicts with the Shield. Got resolved by using a USB extender or OTG cable.

Performance wise, it's pretty zippy. Using SPMC (and not Kodi), with the Arctic Zephyr skin and Emby as the backend. Have it synced to Philips Hue lights (using Hue Lightstrips behind the TV to provide Ambilight) and that works perfectly as well

No real need for Atmos passthrough now as I'm just using a soundbar.

Probably too pricey for just a simple media player, but does look sleek and is pretty responsive.

whew.. oo nga pala interested din ako sa NVidia Shield dati pa -- and now there's a 2017 version coming?  that's very very good!

1. I even stared a new thread for Zapitti 4K HDR NMT para pag-usapan din.  but heck, if it's price is really 15,000PhP, then it would be a steal just acquiring this new NVidia Sheild.
2. I'm looking for a (wireless) gamepad controller for my current Android NMT, instead gumastos ako for its gamepad,  NVidia Sheild has it already.

My kid's are getting hooked on playing Android games on TV now, so I guess this is the most practical solution for us.  =))

I checked this out:

    http://shield.nvidia.com/support/nvidia-android-tv/release-notes/2

- ATMOS, DTS:X pass-through support with Plex
-- I'm using Plex with my LG TV and laptop since 2012.  will be very glad to have it here on NVIDIA Shield as well to work harmoniously with my LG 55UH8500
- Disney (Channel, Junior and XD) are now on SHIELD!
-- if this works perfectly, we could already unsubscribe our SKY-Destiny cable service

can someone please re-confirm both the above working on your NVidia Sheild?  TIA!

Since it just got released yesterday we have to wait for someone to say something about plex, atmos and dts;x  on the Update 5.0

The old shield will be getting the same update next week. They prioritized the new owners of 2017 so as not to jam their servers with download request.

So if any info that going to come out between now and next week. It would be from the new owners.

I see thanks alot!  So the NVidia Sheild 2017 only released yesterday?  Good timing for me then.  Next is to source locally here in PH its availability.

BTW, I heard that this pairs flawlessly with a PS4 controller (Dualshock4).  So meaning, I won't need to buy an extra controller since I have one already. =))

Yep. Release date was  Jan 16.

Some have said they bought their shield 2017 for $ 175.  The remote is now bundled free.

Here is the thread about controllers that works or does not work with shield.

pro and non pro have both the new controller and Remote bundled.

Non pro == no ir receiver, no micro sd slot.

Yes wala.  They found it too slow and caused alot of problem s as compared to usb hard drive when expanding storage in android 6

then it's better to buy the Pro -- with 500HDD (or it is SSD) inside?

or is it still good to use a USB-connected external HDD?  If yes, I might just buy a smaller-capacity one and dedicate it only for expanding memory/storage..

thanks!

I am not sure what HDD is inside the pro. I think it is just an ordinary  HDD and not an SSD. The 16 gb is ssd.

I have not connected any usb hard disk to my 16 gb shield since I have everything on my NAS. Actually my NAS is just  an My WD My Cloud with a powered USB 3.0 hub. I can add usb hard disk on it if I ran out of space. I have 7 USB 3.0 slot so I just keep adding USB hard drive to expand my storage.

The main issue with 16 gb vs 500 gb shield right now is, if you are planning to run Plex server. Plex server does not like saving on USB hard drive. If I am not mistaken it has to do with plex android write permissions. There  is info that they fixed this with Update 5.0, but this is so far unconfirmed.

So if you  plan to run Plex Server you need to get the 500 GB version so that you wont have problems Plex saving meta data, thumbs etc etc when building its movie info database.

The 16 Gb would be instantly be filled if you try to use  Plex server especially if you have hundreds of movies and content.
