Freshly downloaded Resident Evil 7, and tried nvidia gamestream from my Asus N550jk with gtx850m to my Nvidia shield TV. Game was flawless!

Try it out today in games like Tomb Raider, ABZÛ, and LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens.

And More

Amazon Video enhancements for surround sound as well as remote control responsiveness.
Support for encrypted VP9 with subsampling.
Enhanced system performance and stability.

Other Enhancements
•   Adds Amazon Video app enhancements for surround sound pass-through, remote control responsiveness, and resolves cases of blank display for HDR playback.
•   Adds support for Encrypted VP9 with subsampling.
•   Delivers v1.02 firmware update for the new SHIELD controller. Fixes responsiveness when waking SHIELD from sleep, resolves issues when updating the controller while connected via USB, and fixes IR setup issues.
•   Delivers v1.05 firmware update for the new SHIELD TV (16GB) when paired with SHIELD remote. Update fixes issues with battery level reporting.
•   Delivers v1.06 firmware update for the new SHIELD TV (16GB) when paired with SHIELD remote with headset jack accessory. Update fixes responsiveness when resuming from sleep.

nice! thanks for sharing this update info..  -- i set mine not to auto-update =))

there are so many issues pa pala... and glad many are fixed in just this single update.

like the 2017 controller, there already is a battery level reporting, so this one is also a nice-to-have:
-•   Delivers v1.05 firmware update for the new SHIELD TV (16GB) when paired with SHIELD remote. Update fixes issues with battery level reporting.

though they promised of a 1-year battery life on the remote, right?

normal use. But if you use it 24/7 then it would be another thing :D

there should be a removable battery on the new remote, sir... you'll notice a very small screw on the bottom edge of the remote unit.  as the new remote is very thin, they've put there a flat (like a coin) battery... =))

unlike the separately sold remote for the previous Shield model, it is an internal rechargeable one via a micro USB cable.

If yes, it means new packaging for the Shield Pro din ginawa nila on 2017 model.

xxadonixx, yung bundled-free 2015 remote mo, separate box pinadala sa iyo, tama?

may headphone jack naman yung bagong shield controller, so okay lang...

yung old shield controller ba meron din headphone jack?  so meaning, if you have both old remote & old controller, sabay gumagana at sabay rin tag-isa kayo ng kalaro/kasama mo manuod ng headphones?  If yes, maganda nga =)

I will also buy an extra 2017 shield controller, then magagawa dapat na sabay tag-1 headphones.. hmmm gastos na nman ito haha

speaking of 2017 shield controllers...

remote controller likes:
  -- manipis at mukhang matibay
  -- hindi madulas sa kamay
-- metal alloy yata yung likod kasi malamig siya hawakan, mainit kapag naiwan ko sa ibabaw ng AVR =))
-- di parin bawas battery level according sa battery level report ng shield unit
-- I'm using this every day, pan-right/left, forward/rewind while watching movies

remote controller dislikes:
-- until now, I get a mistake pressing the mic button rather than the center navigation button
-- volume slider is very sensitive (though I disabled volume control on the remote) so a notification pops up on TV each time we accidentally touch this area

gamepad controller likes:
-- very ergonomic, like an XBox One remote
-- quite lightweight at hindi nkaka-ngalay
-- I haven't re-charged it even once, and battery level according to battery level report sa main unit says still almost full-bar
-- unlike PS DualShock 4 (used by my 4-yr old son) we charge it full 1 every 2 days -- Sony Android TV pop-ups a notification when battery is depleting
  -- very responsive

gamepad controller dislikes:
-- mas malaki siya sa PS DualShock 4
  -- nothing more of note

From a family man  point of view.  Did the NSATV upgrade from your usual vanilla media player bring alot of new things when it comes to family bonding and time?

As it suppose to be an all in one box for gaming and music + plex server.

yes! very much indeed, sir! though at some point (and as expected with new devices), there are slight learning curves of its usage.

my personal reason in acquiring this is to have a media player and game console in-one.  and am really glad I found it in Shield.  makes me think this becomes the cheapest -- if we talk about getting BOTH (1) the best and most powerful media player (2) combined with a game console.

with games, I just want the classic old NES/SNES ones and I'm glad that they're available for FREE via emulators.  for the new and more advanced ones, I'll leave it to my kids if they'll be interested when they discover them =))  I might even support to pay for them.. =))

with movies & music -- I'll stay traditional for now.  download from source and store/collect them on our external HDDs.  we can't stream yet since we are limited with low internet speed account.

however with Plex streaming, I liked the version pre-installed on LG TV with our laptops as the Plex Media Server -- it's accessed via WiFi.  playing 1080p and 720p contents are flawless.  Only 4K contents where we experience some video stuttering.  but it's understandable since we're on a WiFi band.

while the Plex app pre-installed in Shield used as a media player acts differently and it requires more bandwidth even with the same 1080p/720p contents found in our laptop's Plex Media Server -- which I don't understand.

^ that's very very good, sir!  swerte talaga NVidia owners =))

no pun intended, pagdating ng 2nd (2017) gamepad controller mo, can you please try to connect a headphone for each of the 3?  dapat same timing audio streamed silang 3..

sorry curious lang ako.  ang galing kasi ni NVidia because nag-add ng headphone jack pati sa remote controller =))

Nvidia Shield TV PRO (2017) review

I am an owner of Apple TV for 4 yrs now I have the Apple TV 3rd Gen and 4th Gen.  My reason for switching to NVIDIA is because yung 4K movies ko is hindi na playable sa Apple TV. Based sa mga review Nvidia Shield Pro is the best 4k media player today. So I ordered online (Feb 4) and got it last Friday (Feb 17). The setup is very straight forward minus yung 2 times ka mag upgrade ng SHIELD Experience OS niya in 1 day.

Issues:

NVIDIA Shield Android TV flashing line – This is triggered when you switch-on refresh rate settings on PLEX & Kodi. I am using LG UH8500.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_5Coi4StgM

Mounted NAS Shared Drive disappears after a reboot or restart.

Verdict

A bit pricey compare to other NMT but it is worth the buy.  It can play almost anything you throw at it. From 1080p to 4k/60fps movies , 4k Youtube and also 4k Netflix. I used it for movies and tv series watching using PLEX and KODI. It is also a full Plex Media Server meaning you can run PLEX without any PC/NAS. It can transcode/decode any audio/video format you like as long as you are connected to a gigabit router or dual band wifi router.
The unit is very heavy compare to the standard model and to my apple tv 4th gen maybe because it is the 500 GB model.

With NVIDIA Shield Pro , You're getting the most future proof set top box today that can play any media and the device is very fast considering the Processor is a NVIDIA Tegra X1 and RAM is 3GB.

Playing mafia 3 using nvidia gamestream technology on my rig located in the living room with GTX1080 and being streamed wirelessly to my 55" LG Oled b6p via NVIDIA SHIELD TV in the bedroom through Asus rt ac87u router in 4k ultra quality. Graphics quality is awesome! No lag whatsoever.

AFAIK 2015 model does not have the TV remote bundled in. The 2017 model includes it and of course the unit itself is smaller than the first model.
