how to choose and tune subwoofer
« on: Oct 03, 2015 at 09:00 AM »
i read couple of threads re subwoofer but quite old. i also read the first two articles that appeared when googling it - how to choose. just to be sure that im the right direction, i wanted to read facts/opinions here...

how do i choose the correct subwoofer?  i was told couple of guys it's better to have 2.1 first than get a center speaker.

i have small room with limited space. thanks.

another question: how do you add a second subwoofer if there is no 2nd sub out?

===== UPDATE =====

after auditioning several wharfedales, missions, polks, anthony audio, psb too... ended up with SVS PB1000. i dont want to spend too much and i also dont want to spend again because i made a mistake.

i picked SVS based on recommendation even though i haven't heard it yet. naisip ko lang pag ayaw ko madali ibenta kasi marami naman nagre-recommend.

assuming not SVS, i probably went for Anthony Audio's 10" dual sub because of the price.

it depends on your budget sir. price range is needed to answer your question.

it depends on your application: is it for music or movies?

it depends on your preferences: are you a normal listener or a basshead?

since you have small room, i think sealed subwoofer might be enough.

and since you have limited space, choose subs which has the smallest footprint.

For HT get an SVS. But again depends on your budget. I made a mistake of not getting this when i started. Tried different brands of sub from JBL, Klipsch and Mordaunt Short simply because they are cheaper. Nung nagka budget na ako i tried SVS and sold the other brand. Then upon hearing it, i realized that i should have saved and get the SVS from the start.

For music, SVS has selead sub that works well. But if you have a budget, get A Rel.

This is just my opinion based on experience of ownership. It might be different from yours..

For additional sub without a 2nd sub out, use a Y splitter to connect both subs.

Sir, the determining factor for a sub is your misbass.  The hardest part is to integrate the sub to your bookshelves/floorstand.  Sometimes the simpliest route is to have the same brand of speakers all the way.  Usually, bookshelves or floorstands that are ported is quite hard to integrate.

if you have the space, consider Anthony Audio's Philippians Dual 10" sub for 15k or the Titus Dual 12" sub for 20k. ;) :)

so i check the price of the SVS and way out of budget. pero tama kayo go for the big gun na para tipid.

pero eto yun "bisyo" hindi ko masyado gusto i-bloat yun budget unless may compelling reason to go for it and ma-audition ko, magustuhan ko.

so right now the "better" option sub for me is the QA din kahit di ko pa na audition simply to match the brand. pero syempre, meron siguro, sana, na sub that delivers without breaking the bank meant for another bisyo :)

I have this model too. It was the best for my budget. its 12" for the price for an 8-10" sub. But it's has a large footprint so you might want to consider that as well.

I bought my svs pb1000 for 19k used. Mukhang bago pa din tunog bago.

Way out of budget.."NOW"...if you save and learn how to practice patience, it will be within budget and will not seem like it broke the bank. there is no need to get an over the top sub, just choose a size that is appropriate for your room.

good luck sa hobby mo sir.
