Did the panel replacement cost you as much as buying a new LED TV?
The question was: repair the 46" Sony Bravia from 2006 or step up to a new 55" Sharp Aquos Quattron? I chose the latter.
The replacement panel's cost was about 60% of the price, exclusive of labor. Recall that the decision was made circa 2009, and I didn't have to shell out the same amount of money to step up the screen size. The 46" Sony Bravia was selling in 2006 north of 250k, bundled with that thick, heavy, durable but very sluggish bluray player and a mini DVD home theater system, while the bigger top-of-the-line Quattron panel was selling in 2009 at around the 140k range.
The other dealbreaker was the "up to one month" waiting time for the replacement. I didn't have the patience to wait when I can simply get a bigger panel for less money with a 2-year full warranty.
