I think shield makes sense if you're going to use it for gaming extensively. If just for mainly HT use I don't think the extra cost is justified.

I actually did the opposite. I am using Shield 95% as a HT.  I got it when the Minix 8H plus is the only one that is nearest in terms of speed.  Which cost as much as 80% of the shield.

But it is different nowadays.

Shield will be worth it if you get it during their occasional sale. It can be bought for 150$ usd during sales at amazon.

Depends on your purpose. I have been using NSATV  months now. I am satisfied for the simple reason that I want to use it as a HT box.

I have been trying out games recently  on shield. I get a console feel like how the games are made to work with the controller.

The price difference between Minix U1 and NSATV is big.  You can game with U1but i am not sure if the quality of the games come near console feel since the user interface is not optimized for a third party controller.

If you want a HT box and occasional gaming and streaming. UI is better as the cost is well justified. But you have to spend for a third party game pad.

If you want a HT box,r regular gaming be it Native or emulator, streaming. Shield is suited for it. But you have to pay a premium. But remember that the game pad is already included unlike the U1.

If I have to choose now, I would probably get U1 because of the price of it. But I did not regret buying the shield. It payed for itself many times over.

My son is using the U1 extensively for emulator based gaming. He is very satisfied with it. We have a bluetooth game controller bought from Lazada that works very well with the U1. Bought it for P1600. Even with all the extras it still comes well below the price of the NSATV. The big differentiator for the NSATV are native android games. Google Play doesn't recognize the U1 as a gaming console so you're limited in what games you can download.

Also there is one other thing that turned me off from the NSATV - it doesn't have any optical or digital audio out. This means I can't use my old AV receiver with it.

Feedback when you've tried it with your hevc vids.  Anyone know if this would be available in stores in the south, alabang?  Is this the cheapest with such features, so far?

I have not tried U1. But has  the 2nd generation AMLOGIC  Chipset that can hardware decode hevc vids.  The first one came out a year ago. The first was S812 which the  Minix 8H plus uses . Now it is S905 that the U1 uses. I guess it is mature and flawless when decoding  Hevc vids.

There are cheaper boxes like the MX series boxes. Around 2k to 3k price point.

But if you want support and reasonable priced boxes. Go with Minix U1. They have been supporting their products with updates plus there is a local distributor of Minix  products in the Philippines in case you need to avail of warranty.

Sa Ghills for sure meron mas mura a few hundred pesos. Pero hahanapin mo pa at magugutom ka. Mapapgastos ka sa merienda kakahanap.

Not all Villman branches have it in stock. Better to call first to confirm so you won't be disappointed. When I bought mine wala daw stock sa Megamall but found one in stock at Market Market branch.

Is the A2 lite airmouse sold here as well?  And as I might know someone traveling to HK soon, and the minix seems to originate from there, anyone knows if its advisable or cheaper to get there?

If they sourced it from the Philippines distro or Ubertech. Warranty will not be an issue. Local distro will honor it.   Better ask ACM tech if they got it from Ubertech and not a grey market import from China or HK.

If you're going to use an A2 remote best to stock up on two pairs of rechargeable batteries so you always have a  pair in the remote and another pair charged up and ready to go. It goes through batteries much faster than normal remotes especially if you forget to turn off the air cursor.

Those who've tried others, is the U1 worth it so far for hvec x265 playback (though 1080p TV only so far)?  Might order from ACMTech.

For launching and navigating Kodi you can make do with the included remote. Having said that I would still suggest that you get the A2. It makes everything much easier.

Thanks, but can you elaborate a bit more in what ways, in what apps or functions, so I can picture better to help decide?  Used to a WD without keyboard, so I'd like to see what's new where this remote would help.  Thanks.

^^Imagine yourself trying to use an android tablet using only the Home button, Back button, Recent Apps button and the directional keys with NO touch interface. Basically those are the only buttons you have on the included remote with the inclusion of Vol + / - and Settings button.

I see.  So for entering text, you use the directional keys on a displayed keyboard, is that how it would work w/o the A2?
