LG UF680T series FAKE 4K. :
« on: Jan 19, 2016 at 09:23 AM »
I was about to get this tv this week. Good thing I did my research.

http://hdguru.com/new-lg-rgbw-4k-ultra-hd-lcd-line-sparks-debate/
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1991490-buyers-beware-pseudo-uhd-resolution-displays-coming.html

The resolution is apparently 2180x2160. Which isn't the standard 3840 x 2160.

Just sharing this news to people who are interested in this tv.

Maybe thats the reason why some people here mentioned LG's inferior upscaler.

Thanks for the info. Pero looking with naked eye, I can't notice any difference. Use your eyes to decide.

No, but like you, I have been considering this and the 50UF830T and have viewed it a few times in shops. I am leaning more towards the 50UF830T as it has better colors (Nano Prime) and better motion rate than 680T. Again, not referriing to specs, bu judging from my own eyes.

MOTHERF*****R!! I actually have this model.  Kaya pala immediately noticeable na it's not as nice as others. Even the upscaling is not as nice.  Checkout "My thoughts about 4K" post.  I've grown used to it so I'm not as bothered anymore, pero if this article is true, then it explains why I'm not as wowed with it.  Then again, it's still a 55" TV with Wifi and Youtube.  And it can play ALL 4k videos and HEVC files I throw at it.  I have yet to get a video that I can't play with this model.

So all in all, for the price you pay, sulit pa rin.  I'm not rationalizing, as I've already said my gripes in a separate post.  Pero given the 55" size and low price and features, it's still worth considering at least.  The thing that I'm wondering about is, even with other apps, it still detects the display as 3840x2160.  Weird.

I'll install the Netflix app and check.  Pero I don't have a Netflix account yet and I don't think their free trial period covers HD or 4k streams.

yikes. well, all that matters is that you're enjoying it! But I'll be getting the 50UF830T nalang. I get to save more and I heard the color is better cause of Color Prime. Cant wait!

Great to read a personal impression on the 830t. I have a Samsung 50j5500. I'm assuming naman the LG 50UT830t is better than my Samsung right? Haha

I am using the 49" version of this LG Smart TV model.

Picture is pretty good  for everyday Cable and Movie viewing.  I download 2160P content from youtube and it comes out sharp naman....much, much sharper than any FHD set   Enough for my dad to say:  "Wow...Its like being in another world, without paying for plane fare!" the first time he saw the image.  And he uses a high-end Samsung FHD series 8.

Price was irresistable (just add a little 4K na), that is why I got it  ;D  Comes with a LG Magic Air Mouse worth 2.5T so Web surfing is a Breeze.

It is a great entry to 4K for people who couldn't afford to before, hehe.  This, I guess, is the marketing strategy of LG.

Just watch from a distance.  PQ should be pretty OK.

LG 4K OLED TVs (judged the best TVs in the 2016 CES ) also use this RGBW arrangement, so pwede na din. ;D

Read that RGBW OLED are totally different from its LED counterpart. So yeah RGBW LED are still inferior products.

Any idea if Samsung JU6600 has the same RGBW pixels?
RGBW TVs utilize a pixel structure called RGBW (or WRGB), which differs from the RGB structure that 4K UHD TVs employ. This method converts some of the RGB sub-pixels to white (W) light, reducing the number of the pixels that can actually produce colors by 25 percent. This equates to a lower quality, less detailed picture on the screen.
In the case of RGBW TVs, pixels are square shaped, binding three sub-pixels together to make up a pixel such as BWR and GBW. With this process, however, 75 percent of the total pixels are left with imperfect color structure. For example, BWR pixels cannot express the color green, meaning these TVs do not satisfy the international standard definition of a pixel.
In order to provide consumers with accurate product information, CEA and DE- IT organizations in the US and Europe- have started a 4K UHD logo program. Only TVs that meet the strict UHD definition and requirements are allowed to use a 4K UHD logo from CEA and DE on all marketing materials including packaging. As a result, RGBW TVs cannot qualify for a logo, as they do not satisfy the definitions of 4K UHD. All of the Samsung’s 2015 UHD TVs qualify for CEA and DE’s 4K UHD logo program.

Got this TV last November. First time I'm hearing that it's not true 4k. Sucks. But if you guys haven't told me that it's not true 4k, I would have not notice. 4k videos look great on this TV. The upscalling though is not as good as the high end models. And for some reason Netflix app is not available on this TV. Another thing is a couple of my 4k doesn't play through this TV usb. But for the other 4k movies that plays...........PQ is great. You won't come to know na it's not true 4k. Native 1080p movies also looks better. Now I'm using a 4k minix media player to play my movies. Everything looks good. Plays all 4k at 60fps.

All in all, I'm happy with it. Except for the Netflix problem. But for the price, you can't complain. It definitely blows my Panasonic plasma full HD away.

bakit kasi 4K pa ang tawag nila. kung dati 1080p, dapat dyan ay 2160p o Ultra HD na lang.

kung 3840 din kasi ang horizontal resolution, fake pa rin na 4K yan.

Ouch. I have the 55" but I'm not complaining about the PQ. I didn't have the opportunity to do a side by side with other models from another brand since 4k material is limited. But for the price i paid I'm not complaining. happy camper here.

The price was very compelling.  It came down to paying an equivalent of a big Burger per month for 12 months, I could have a UHD TV over a 1080p one.

I tested 4K video in the store, compared it with others, OK naman.  And it blew away the all the FHD sets.

My plan is to enjoy this TV for a year or so, then upgrade.

as long as you enjoy it, thats all that matters. :) I'll probably just get the 50UF830T. 36,500 lang with the magic remote. worth it na! :3 ill upgrade to a bigger 4k tv once theres more content.
