I painted my White BOC screen to grey and BIG BIG BIG difference !!! For those white white colored rooms where the light of the projector is bouncing of the walls. The light gray screen will do wonders !!!

Black level will improve sa grey screen, it also performs a lot better in rooms where ambient light is present.

Bad thing with grey screen is that the white color will look "dirty white" and all the other colors tend to be dull.Kaya sa Silverfire DIY paint screen they use "white fusion" at the innermost coating of the translucent grey screen to reflect more white light back to the viewer so that the whites will look whiter instead of "dirty white" all other colors will also look more alive.

If you plan to go with grey screen route, you need to increase reflective elements on the paint mix so that the screen gain will not be affected as grey screen tend to absorb more light.

Additional: The grey paint mixture should NOT be opaque. It should be translucent to allow white light to pass through the grey paint until it hits the white inner undercoating (ung white paint lang sa pinakaloob ang opaque). Imagine painting this on a clear glass and shine a flash light through the painted glass, dapat may konting light pa nakakpenetrate through the painted glass. To achieve translucence property is add neutral satin-finish paint.

My first mix, naging "dirty white" yung white, as my gray was too dark, when i lightened it up,  ok na yung mga whites.

Very nice ALR screen! :)

http://www.elitescreens.com/products/ambient-light-rejecting-screens

http://www.carlofet.com/ambient-light-rejecting-projector-screen-raw-material.html#.V7XJ3ph94dU

Master, ano ba ang setback if you use ALR? I mean in a theater room environment where tlagang zero lights, will it perform better than a 1:1.1 gain white screen?

Narrower viewing and projecting angles ang main downside.

Even with black walls/ceiling may reflection pa din from viewers, furniture, the floor, etc. kaya may advantage pa din ang ALR. Hindi lang kasinglaki than in a bright room.

I'm thinking that maybe the screen itself would be the problem. Searching for a cheap replacement, and found this one.....

https://youtu.be/ZgnC2Vk-6RI  ;D  Try ko muna ng maliit, sana it works. Nasa post office na daw, wala pa akong time kunin. ;)

I used Nippon "Grey Knight" from Handy Man.
Btw i'm using Optoma HD180 Projector.
