I was thinking of  using 2 pairs of car speakers in series to increase the impedance to 8 ohms...

Why don't you just use one speaker per channel (atmos), assuming that your amp can handle the 4ohms rating?

But I think it's possible.

I know someone who uses car speakers for all channels of his HT set-up, ganda tumunog ;)
