Help me setting up my home theater
« on: May 02, 2016 at 07:37 AM »
LEVEL: Newbie

Hello masters,

Please help me in setting up my HT for a 3x5meter room. This is for our new house and sadly this is just the space alloted to me by my wife haha. I will have a 65" display and hope you can help me with the rest. Atleast a 5.1 setup with a budget of 100k excluding the TV. I don't need the top of the line of everything, if possible just what this 3x5meter space needs so if we can lower the budget the better hehe.

Thank you!

1st thing that you need ti figure out is if your setup will be used for ht only or ht+music.  If HT only then I recommend Onkyo receiver and a warm set of speakers like mission, wharfedale or even b&w.  If ht+music then marantz receiver and bright set of speakers like polk audio or jbl.  For subwoofer, I cant think of any but SVS.  I recommend listening room in mega and watts hifi in mcs for auditioning.

Audition is the key as we have different listening preference.  The more you ask, the more you'll get confused.  Audition and listen is the safest and the best way to go

Sorry forgot to add. It will be for like 70/30 movie/music. I'm looking at smaller form factor speakers so I guess I should go for bookshelves? I'll audition later this month, are listening room/watts hifi OK interms of selection and prices? Thanks!

Consider this setup:

Onkyo TX-SR343 - 20999
SVS Prime Satellite Black Ash - 15000/pair x2 = 30000
SVS Prime Center Black Ash - 21000
SVS PB-1000 ported subwoofer - 29000

TOTAL: 100999

Take note that these are standard retail prices. if you pay cash, you'd probably get 10-15% discount, making your total below 100k.

Can anyone suggest good in-wall speakers for my budget? Since I have a really small space allotted for my HT. Or should I just avoid them altogether? hehe :)

So I went to Watt Hifi at MCS today to test their products and honestly speaking I don't know what to look for in terms of sound quality. What I did is just check out the clarity of the dialogues and the surround and that's it hehe. Any suggestions on what I should look for for my next audition?

Anyway, they recommended to me these lineup:

TX NR646
Fronts - BW 685 series 2
Center - HT M62 series 2
Surround - BW 686
Sub - BW ASW610

Went over my budget but appreciate your thoughts. Thank you! :)

If you can squeeze PA budget mo, consider acoustic treatments din if your aiming for clarity. It will make a huge difference.

My walls will be filled CHB all around with a 3m exposed ceiling height. What else would you suggest interms of acoustics? I've read about putting a carpet between me and the fronts and not going overboard with those sound dampener materials? Hopefully my architect wil be able to finalize the sketchup plan of my HT room fully detailed to my specifications so you guys can help me out further :)

Where can I audition SVS? MCS only have B&W on hand so I don't have anything else to try. Thanks!
