James won the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, which is given to the player, coach or athletic trainer who shows outstanding service and dedication to the community.

"LeBron James’ efforts to help young people are exemplary," Professional Basketball Writers Association President Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel said in a statement.

In selecting James the PBWA pointed to his efforts in education. For nearly a decade, James has been using his foundation to improve and expand opportunities for disadvantaged youth in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

"It means a lot," James said. "I do so much for my community and my foundation does a great job of giving families and kids and the youth an opportunity to better their lives and better their futures and for that part of what I do to be recognized, it's definitely an award that not only myself and my foundation but all my kids that are a part of my program and all the people that look up to me, it's their award for sure."

In April, the 32-year-old superstar announced that the LeBron James Family Foundation, and the Akron Public Schools, will create the new I PROMISE School. The school is scheduled to open with third and fourth graders in 2018. By 2022, the school will be filled with first through eighth graders.

James had already created a plan to give thousands of children a free college education. In 2015, the foundation started a partnership with University of Akron to fully funds scholarships for students who complete the foundation's academic program, which James started sponsoring in 2010.

James has won plethora of basketball awards — three NBA championships, four regular-season MVPs, three NBA Finals MVPs, two Olympic gold medals — but this is the first time in his 14-year career he won the citizenship award.

NBA teams submitted 26 nominees. Before selecting James, the PBWA whittled down that group of 26 to a handful of finalists, which included New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler, Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum and Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph.

Meanwhile, James and the Cavaliers continue to steamroll through the playoffs. They haven't lost a postseason game since they faced a 3-1 deficit in last season's NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. Both teams look to be on a collision course for a finals rematch. Golden State is up 3-0 against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. James and Cavs take their 2-0 lead into tonight's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics.

In fairness to Aldrige. The game has changed and it the guards that runs the show and facilitates the offense. Before the 1st option was to post up the big men and throw the ball to the post. Now the guards would just create either shoot from long range, attack the basket with drives and drop off to the big men or kick out the ball to the shooters.
San Antonio had a depleted line up with Parker and Leonard out of injury and the Spurs with its type of line up always have problems against run and gun teams.
All big men will have problems running the floor nowadays thus makin them less effective.
