Guys I'm choosing between these two floorstanders. I will audition them both tomorrow at Listen Up in Glorietta. I will be pairing them with my Yamaha RX-V379 AVR. Need your inputs which will help me in deciding which of these I will get.

The wharfedale's srp is 24,950 but I can get 20% discount if I pay cash (19,960). But I'm paying with my credit card and they are willing to give 15% discount (21,200). The Pioneer goes for 12,000.

pioneer is best known for electronics products, but not speakers. while wharfes are best known for speakers and not amps.take advantage of their specialty.
but the problem is u already have yamaha receiver. i think its better if u pair it with polk audio speakers. yamaha & polk is a better tandem than ur choices.

Pioneer speakers are now designed by reknown speaker designer Andrew Jones, the same guy behind the high end TAD speakers which is partly owned by Pioneer. Pioneer SP 52FS was designed by Andrew Jones while TAD Reference One which sells for $70k was also designed by Andrew Jones.

Of course, only you can decide. Its your ears, your preference and your money. But you were asking for inputs so we gave some background info for whatever their worth to you.

audition both, and let ur ears decide. trust ur instinct bro bec at the end of the day, you are the one who will use it, not us.
we can only suggest, and that is the purpose of this thread.
ideally its better if u will bring ur own receiver to check both speakers.
i was at listen up glorietta last week and they only have onkyo and pioneer receiver for demo.

A center speaker must be the same make and series with your fronts para naka tono, you should consider that too. I think the wharf 230 would match well with your yamaha avr. I too liked its sound, warm, bold, can go loud if needed be if you wanna rock, but would prefer it with an integ amp kung music. :)

For now my budget only allows me for the fronts. At the moment I'm using a set of vintage Mordaunt Short speakers and a JBL sub which are all circa 1998. Whatever fronts I will get I will pair it first with my MS center speaker and see if it matches.

Update lang...

Went to audition these two floorstanders. The Diamond 230 sounded big with authority, warm, vast soundstage and neutral tone. The AJ Pioneer had exceptional midrange accuracy with natural sound quality right out of the box but lacks some bass. But this could be solved by pairing it with a subwoofer. I was inclined to get the Wharfe but when we played some movies it sounded flat compared sa AJ. Walang dating para sa akin. As I will be using this for music and movies I settled for the AJ. The price was also a factor. Got it for 12,500. My Mordaunts will take a backseat and rest for a while. Thanks for your inputs.

the ajpioneer fs is brighter than wharfe fs hence the perception of midrange clarity.
is this considered an upgrade from ur mordaunt short carnival? d ba  parehas lang clang entry level. btw, what sub will u use for this, just curious lang po. did u hear their atlantic tech sub sa listen up glorietta, malakas d ba kht sealed lang na maliit.hehe

This is an upgrade as my Mordaunt Short speakers are vintage circa 1998 (not Carnival), speaker models are VS300FS, VS100C and VS100R (can't find anything about them on the internet). I used these speakers from 1998-2007 and was relegated to a corner of the house when my Kenwood receiver malfunctioned where it accumulated dust. Revived it recently when I got my Yamaha receiver. Anyway I am pairing it with a JBL Digital 10 active subwoofer which I also bought circa 1998.

WOW!!!! I am really enjoying this now. Konti pang tono (using YPAO) at break in. I paired it with my MS center, surrounds and JBL subs. They seem to blend well. I never knew what I was missing until I got these AJ Pioneer FS.
