Sony Smart TVs also receive continuous patches and updates.  I think the advantage really is the PQ, and ability to handle HEVC content.

Built-in Chromecast is a dream.  My Chromecast unit heats up so much, to the point of video stuttering after 2 hours of continuous use (imagine the stuttering happening during the closing minutes of an NBA game I'm casting over).

Chromecast v2 costs ~P1,500 - P1,800.  So I can think that the rest of the Mi Box 3 features only cost 2k.  :)  I've already bought it, yet I continue to justify.  Maybe it's subconsciously for a 2nd unit.   ::)

On voice search, it's really cool when used for Play Store.  However, it doesn't seem to work to look for movies within the native Netflix app.  I was hoping I can voice search for Netflix content.  :-[  Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

Ibenta mo na chromecast mo he he he.

As for Netflix voice search, it's not implemented there (yet). Google I/O 2017 developers conference is ongoing now and I am going to watch for developments on Android TV. We're waiting for Google Assistant kasi.

not that just but also portability, timely update from google. if there's a 4k that isn't "smart" so that it will be  priced lower plus this - or any android tv for that matter :)

teka para di ma OT - i've been using this + kodi and streaming my files via wireless from NAS. no hiccups or whatsoever. it properly detects the audio codecs as seen from my receiver. detects 2.4ghz and 5ghz without any issues.

x x x I can say that an Android TV Box is smarter than a Smart TV. x x x

Totally agreed on this.

I have Samsung panels, both smart TV. But the beautiful Tizen OS is not as customizable as the OS in an Android TV box like the Mi Box 3's. Tizen apps are plenty handful but Google Play apps designed for the Android TV platform continue to grow more than those being developed for Samsung's proprietary OS.

The cheaper "Smart TV" is not Android based.

Napaka simple, smooth, well developed.

I bought a new 55 inch samsung tv not because of it being a smart tv, but because it is 4k uhd. But seldom do I use its built in media player, and other apps since after sometime, maybe its memory or cashe, or the like would affect its "smartness". Unlike a dedicated Android TV box, smart tvs have very limited features. Portability and upgradability are also something to consider. So if you are not quite keen of getting a 4k uhd feature in a TV, then just purchase an android tv box. By the way, I think all, if not most, 4k uhd tvs are smart tvs.

True. I'd love to buy an OLED 4k panel scaled-down without any "smart" features.

Fact is, after a year when the updates stop, the smart TVs aren't so smart anymore.

Dropped off my son at Ayala Mall The 30th. Picked up a Mi Box 3.  Decided to get it over the cheaper Shopee option, kasi puwede credit card, and I have immediate satisfaction.

Playing around with it now.  This is such a refined Android TV box.

*TIPS*
1. Activating USB debugging will deactivate the lone USB port at the back.  Not a good thing.
2. Sideloading apps not designed for the Mi Box will not allow you to put a shortcut on your home screen.  Medyo bad trip mag launch nang app by going into Settings>Apps.

Get one ASAP.  You'll thanks us later..  :D

I had a Netflix binge earlier tonight after finding the time to sit back for that purpose. And I CONFIRM that finding Netflix content via Google Voice Search works with the Mi Box 3.

I used Google Voice Search to find and go directly to the Netflix Original shows that I wanted to watch and it worked well. In fact, using Voice Search with the older Netflix app v3.x also worked although I infrequently used it as I preferred to browse Netflix content by categories.

By the way, I am still on Marshmallow and this is my current Netflix app version:

^ did you do the voice search (pressing mic button on MB3 remote) from within the Netflix app?  Or from main menu?  From my initial trials, both yielded Google Movies/TV and YouTube results only.  :(

Finding Netflix content through Voice Search is being treated by Google as a "global" search, not an in-app search, so that if a particular content you're looking for is available on Netflix, Google Movies/TV and YouTube you'd get results from all the said sources.

Here's a screenshot. For example, searching for a series called Sense8 yields a topmost result which is something like this:

The Google Voice Search result indicates that it is "Available on Netflix" and from there you simply click on it. It will automatically launch Netflix (I'm assuming you are already signed in) and it'll start to play.  So convenient!

Just an update. Changed my HDMI cable and was able to play DD tracks without a problem, but I cannot seem to make DTS work. When using MXPlayer as Kodi default, I can play DD and DTS, but MXPlayer is kinda buggy when used with Kodi, I cannot resume a movie without it crashing

just as a test, can you try downloading SPMC from the playstore?

SPMC is based on the Jarvis code of Kodi.

Update: I got one of these from Paololorenzo and it works perfectly. I left for work this morning with the Mi Box in standby and after I got back from work to test, the ethernet was still connected after waking it from suspend.

After much reading I think I know why. This hub's chipset supports 802.3az which in a nutshell is LPI (Low Power Idle). It's kinda like sleep mode and wake on-lan capability. I think I am confident that if you get a hub that supports it, it will work properly with the Mi Box.

The Unitek Y-3470 has also been tested to be fully compatible with the Mi Box 3, including wake from standby.  Para sa mga hindi comfortable sa wifi only connectivity of the Mi Box 3.

I think someone here asks if NBA app/League pass works with Mi Box.

Confirmed that we can use NBA app with league pass to watch NBA games.

How about iFlix and streaming sites (fmovies) that don't work with Smart TVs (based on Android, LG, Samsung, generic like Devant/Skyworth OS)? Has anyone tested these in Mi Box 3?

If yes, I'll get one. Thanks in advance. :)

Does it use native NBA app or via NBA.COM website to play? And does it have native iFlix as well?

Or perhaps to simplify for everyone's benefit, what native apps are already built-in?

Thanks again. :)
