i got several phone inquiries about modding the av200, i advise against it....
if ever, i will do the only mod that matters and addresses the issue of cathode poisoning, done a lot of those in this unit....

btw, was at deeco the other day, it is on display there selling for 4795 pesos...

i just do not get it why some folks would buy cheap amps and them spend more to have it modified...
why not just buy more expensive in the first place...

some one called me about an antique sound lab 6l6 monoblocks and wanted it modified, when he does not even have the amp with him....
i know that amp is a cheap circuit type....an AMX would have been better....

I guess they enjoy the journey of buying low priced amps, and I'm the process, make it sound good. Parang vehicle lang yan, they buy what they can afford to buy, then add modifications to improve performance and efficiency.

I guess it's also about being different or special compared to stock equipment.

if the mods are for adding options such as Aux in, sub out, better speaker posts to accommodate larger gauge wires then that's pretty much cut and dry.

Now for performance elevation mods sometimes the outcome is just different from the original. Not better mind you but different. that in itself can be perceived as a "performance upgrade"

I was at Western app center FT branch and hey have a sample unit of the sakura 200t. I listened to it and its actually powerful to drive the crown 1663 400w floorstanding spkr. I actually dont know what to listen to and look for other than to comment about its power. I havent listened to any tube amp yet for me to be able to spot the difference in terms of sound quality.

Western can give that for less than 5k but i didnt succumb to the discount offerred not until i can read feedback good enough for me to consider buying the same. Aesthetically magaanda siya at makintab and can also serve as an additional home decoration.

i used that amp to watch, "malificent" on my tv, sound was very decent for a less than 5k amp....i bought one about 5 years ago, tha amp is now with my brother...

the only mods that i recommend to be done on this amp is to address a design flaw with this amp, the other half of a twin triode buffer was left floating, a big nono with tubes...
several units came to me for repairs, cathode poisoning results in a lit tube but no sound in one channel....
i have mentioned this a good 5 years ago, i hope some were listenning
and did the upgrades to avoid a loss of tubes...

i can not say a step up...but a good bang for the buck step....at the price, unbeatable.....i can not diy that for that price and for that look...

manufacturing economy of scale is simply to much to compete with...

I know this question is not addressed to me but just to share info, any amp, speaker or player should be good for all genres of music.
