Bose Acoustimass Speakers as Atmos Surround speakers?
« on: May 04, 2017 at 08:35 PM »
I have a Bose Acoustimass 6 that's collecting dust from lack of usage.

My main HT setup is a Denon Atmos Capable receiver, Paradigm Titans (Fronts), Paradigm Atoms (Rears), Paradigm Center speakers, SVS 10" Ported subwoofer, and Pioneer up-firing Atmos speakers.

I'm thinking about using the Bose Acoustimass Cube speakers as additional Atmos speakers.

I've read some comments on foreign forums that it's not a good idea to use bose cube speakers with a receiver.

Anyone have any experience with this? Or thoughts even?

thanks!

There is a review of the Acoustimass 6 on CNET. From what I can see the satellites are driven from the Acoustimass module (subwoofer) so it is obviously doing some processing to enhance the sound, also they are rated for amplifiers of only 10W. I would be inclined to agree with what you have read on other forums.

Since the Bose speakers are with you, why don't you try them out as Atmos speakers.

Run a small volume through them first.   Then increase accordingly.

stick with what you have read on the review... your bose cubes are designed to feed from the sub module -- not direct from the AVR.

btw, you have a 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 Atmos capable receiver, thus the need for additional heights?

Try replacing the bose cube on your other existing speaker to compare the difference.   You may find the sound too flat for your taste.
