Torn: Sony KD-55w800c vs Sony KD-49x8000e - DECIDED
« on: May 19, 2017 at 06:22 PM »
Hi all, looking for some friendly advice. My Toshiba 46PB20 has passed on after 4 years of service and now I find myself in a position to get a new TV set.

I really wanted a Plasma back in the day but they're now long gone. So I'm left with LCD's and my preferred brand is SONY.
There's an installment fiesta going on now in a very popular mall that is promoting these models with 24 months installment and it's difficult to resist.

Please help me out, I might make my purchase as soon as tomorrow. Will bring my source material to test side by side tomorrow.

So here are my options.

Option 1
SONY KD-55w800c (2015 model)

Pros
- 55 inches
- Blacks look deeper in the showroom floor.
- I think it's 3D capable

Option 2
SONY KD-49x8000e (2017 model)

Pros
- 4k (probably only a PRO on paper)
- HDR
- Triluminous display

I'm sure most would answer to just get a 4k display but I have reasons why I would like to stick with a FULL HD unit.

1. Getting a 4k unit might start a brand new cycle of wants that I wish to avoid.
2. The blacks of the FULL HD unit seemed deeper in the showroom floor though I have yet to test them side by side with the same source material.
3. The FULL HD unit is 55 inches making it 6 inches bigger than the 4k unit (In my mind, bigger is better)
4. I think it's 3D capable
5. I think a FULL HD set will be kinder to my DVD's (Yes, I still have a DVD collection)

Reasons I might want to get a 4k unit.

1. HDR content interests me, and at least I'll be ready for when HDR becomes more common (I already have an Xbox One S)
2. I have read good things about SONY's Triluminous display technology. Anyone care to vouch for this?

Both sets are use EDGE lit backlight tech (Is this a bad thing?)
Both are Android TV's (I really don't care about this because I have an HTPC) (Should I watch out for bugs in the OS?)

Help!

you won't go wrong for opting a 4K TV at this time -- never worry your future wants.  we are all going there, anyway.

even for a 49incher, since you came from 46incher is already a good upgrade.  since you are only opting for the 2 models, I wouldn't suggest the 55incher 8000e series.

no bugs found so far with my 43x8000D Android TV, so definitely should be no bugs too for this 2017 model.  my 2016 x8000d actually had a recent firmware update, which is Hybrid Log-Gamma.  but haven't really done any keen observations as lately I only watched a 1080p movie with it -- being only a secondary display device on our household.

wish you luck on your final purchase.  keep us updated =))

So I purchased the Sony 49x8000e last night. I demoed it alongside the Samsung 55 KU6000 and quite frankly the Sony looked better to my eyes.
Delivery will be within the week, will keep you folks updated :)

Brader, I used my BDO Visa card sa Automatic Center in Gateway, Buy Now Pay Later pa 2 months. Hanggang May 31 nalang ata ang 24 months installment promo.
The Sony 49x8000e is a 2017 model so it has an SRP of 55,499 I think kapag cash roughly 40k

What sold me is how it treated DVD's, I brought some DVD's to test how it handles SD material and to my eyes Sony showed a cleaner and smoother picture than the Sammy.
This is just in the store though, we'll see once I have the TV at home.

congratz on your new 49in 4K HDR TV -- with HLG when you upgrade the firmware or maybe it's there already...

buy a PS4 gamepad controller and you're in for some Android games as well on that unit =))
