I had the audioengine a2 with d1 combo for the office. I liked it! Very nice sound.

I eventually replaced it with a bose companion 3s.

I liked the sound a bit better for office listening. I think the bose is better sa near field listening.

Don't go with the companion 5s. The surround sound messes up the stereo sound

ts, a piece of advice.

don't settle just because it's not in your budget now. you'll end up with a brand new pair of speakers but you know you want something else.

my advice is just save up for it. or sell a few things that are lying around :)

check out the ff:

cerwin-vega xd40 for desktops and cerwin-vega xd8 for my sub.

really liking how it sounds. These are powered speakers, so you do not need an amp to power them up.

I was actually aiming for the audioengine, kaso mahal, and these cerwin-vega only costs half the price of the audioengine speakers.

you can find reviews of the speakers in youtube.

hope it helps.

i totally agree with this one! "do it right the first time!" ;)

or sometimes really go cheap if you can't do it right the first time :D

To have an opportunity to own a budgeted and satisfying speakers is to go second hand, but provided that it is of A-1 condition.   And the rule of thumb for the price is...   it shouldn't exceed 60 percent of a brand new one.

On space restriction, in which is the reason we took up desktop, one should looks for the frequency range of the unit which is about 40hz to 20khz.

On the distance between the unit and the wall, it should not be less than two feet.   And the toe in & out depends upon one's liking...   I prefer mine toe out, I like the sounds went through the surrounding before getting into my ears.

just want to update. i ended up getting audioengine a2+ for these reasons:

 - sound quality (eto lang bose companion 5 lang na test ko)
 - size, super compact about the lesser by few mm height of nexus 6p
 - color, white which complements my desk setup - ikea linnmon nd tertial lamp and black shade

assuming hindi eto siguro yun edifier r1280db for the price, connectivity, color or swan as per recommendations
