They REJECTED scripts by Antoinette Jadaone and Raya Martin and a Nick Joaquin musical. Something tells me their claim of basing it on the actual scripts is utter B.S. They just read the title page and who's starring in it.

I saw Ang Larawan , the musical in CCP years ago starring Celeste Legaspi and Noemi Manikan-Gomez. Truly great Filipino artistry!
I also read "Smaller and smaller circles"...smart, nail-biting suspense with a Jesuit priest as a kind of CSI expert
The one change I loved about the duterte admin

Mike De Leon with Citizen Jake's lead actor, Atom Araullo

One of the most anticipated Filipino films this year is Citizen Jake. It is currently in the works under the direction of Mike De Leon. Fans of De Leon expect that this film will be selected for inclusion in the forthcoming 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival. Citizen Jake is De Leon's comeback project after 18 years of "hibernation" from the movie industry.

Four (4) films were already selected for the current MMFF based on submitted scripts. However, Citizen Jake's script wasn't submitted to the selection committee.

Citizen Jake lead star Atom Araullo, who co-wrote the script, reveals: “Hindi talaga nag-submit ng script because I think ang pananaw ng director namin and also the producer that if it’s going to be a film festival, the submission should be a finished film and not just the script. That’s why the team decided not to submit the script. He’d rather submit the finished film. 'Yun lang naman 'yun. We didn’t join the first round of selection.”

De Leon, who directed the well-loved Filipino film classics such as Itim, Batch '81, Kisapmata and Kung Mangarap Ka't Magising, among others, says that Citizen Jake will probably be his last film.

“I have a real journalist playing a fictional journalist in an investigative crime story with political overtones,” De Leon says of his film.

Sounds interesting.

'Citizen Jake' no longer joining MMFF 2017

“Citizen Jake” will no longer join this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Acclaimed director Mike de Leon made the announcement himself through a statement posted in the movie’s official Facebook page.

“Ever since the anomalous selection process that occurred months ago that resulted in 4 films being selected based on scripts, I realized that any reforms well-intentioned filmmakers may clamor for are only doomed to failure,” he said.

He added: “Corruption has returned in full force to this festival that purports to make children happy during the holiday season, a euphemism for profit and greed.”

I think this is one movie that cannot be classified as a bubble-gum movie. Hence, it's not only worth watching for the first time, but also worth watching again. We spit out the bubble-gum after chewing it, never to take it back again, so to speak.

The script to Deadma Walking apparently won the Palanca, so I guess I'll have to check that one out as well.

^ Our household helpers announced that they were planning to see this parade. They came back very late at night and I wondered what happened to them. I didn't know that the usual parade along Roxas Boulevard was held in Alabang this time (hmmn, some kind of politics involved?) and I wasn't surprised that they found it difficult to get back because a lot of buses didn't ply their usual route in Muntinlupa.

'Ang Larawan' dropped in over 20 theaters in Metro Manila

Poster looks dark, dated and somber.

Masa Pinoys want a more uppity theme to get them out of their miserable lives.

Watched Ang Larawan at SM Marikina last night. Almost full rin ang cinema. However, I had to leave the cinema half-way through due to an emergency regarding my father.
