Sony X90/9000E quick review
« on: Nov 16, 2017 at 07:25 PM »
Screen Quality:

The 65X9000E has a semi glossy screen which handles reflections well even in a very bright room environment. Making the model one of the best performers in a well lit area. The Black Levels are also very good and better than most coming from this price range. Uniformity of the screen is above average and we  noticed that the upper and lower edges of the screen appear brighter. For our unit, the upper left hand corner exhibited the most light blotch. I am, however, not surprised as uniformity issues are simply the limitations of the technology.

View angles, though, suffer as both contrast and colour degrades when not viewed directly. Colours are deep and vibrant and will do great for HDR content.

Image Quality:

CableHD (Cignal)

Upscales 1080i signal well. Picture remains clear.

FullHD (Blu ray)

The Sony does a very good job upscaling  FullHD content. Blu ray movies look sharp and well detailed.

4K/HDR content (Netflix)

Streaming from a PS4 Pro... the 4k native series “Stranger Things” was very well defined and the superb colour array of the X9000E makes this TV well suited for HDR content. Dark areas do not loose detail and picture highlights remain strong.

Gaming performance:

With a 30 mil/sec input response time this unit is more than adequate for gaming.

My take:

Best upper mid range TV I’ve seen with the right price point that seems to be more than acceptable (quite rare for Sony). It’s actually one of the best alternatives to the pricey OLED models.... You get more size for the price!  The only noticeable downside was the less than stellar view angles. This TV may not go toe in toe with the LGC7 in the dark but in a well lit room? It could definitely hold its own and hold it very well.

The Tv was purchased by my brother and I do not own it personally. This was just a quick general review.

720p will upscale well with this TV. Motion is equally good very very little blur. LED is by nature bright but you can always drop the backlight and set the color temp to warm and it should be easy on the eye.

I saw a sony 8500 playing 720p videos, the quality was ok but could have been better, that's why I asked

thanks for sharing Carlo777. i'm new here and your two tv reviews is straight, simple and honest and i really enjoy reading about that OLED C7 vs. KURO especially the hauling part to your friend's house lol...i never bump an article in the web that puts an HDR OLED against an FHD plasma until now and it was KURO!!! i mean man that review was big deal for me! coz i use to have an F8500 samsung plasma(now its dead) and that time KURO's price was way out of my league..

@taloy

Thanks for the kind words. Plasma was and still is a very tough tech to beat despite it being phased out! The only time the Kuro was in some sort of trouble was when it went up against newer techs like 4k, Hdr etc... twas not a fair fight but apparently Darth Kuro😉 was still swinging.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Carlo

This was the TV set that I was eyeing some months ago but we do not have the 49 incher locally.

I ended up with the Samsung KS7000 which I am happy with but quite frankly I like Sony's OS better than Tizen.

Congrats on your new TV, Sony VA panel LEDs have awesome blacks and outstanding sharpness and color accuracy.  I hope they release the 930XE here.

Major advantage of the x9000e is its back lighting technology. It uses the Full-Array Local Dimming Technique to improve overall PQ. It also lessens the backlight bleeding which is typically present in edge lit LCD TVs...
Based from my untrained eye, Sony gives more natural colors while Samsung tends to give a more punchy colors (vivid)...

Below are samples of my x9000e with NVidia Shield Android TV as source playing 4K Netflix

75-inch 75x9000e cash is P209,900. Worth it?

Per BH Photo the most popular 75-inch TV is the Sony XBR-75X900E that sells for $2,498 or about P127,100 without sales tax.

Its the 75x9000e sir.
Recently watched The Big Bang Theory in 720p and PQ is quite good but very far from 4K res file... Probably the 65" would be better...

Nice this TV is picking up alot of steam:)

Best mid range TV for 2017

- Best for bright room enviroments
- One of the Best in Motion Handling

Only real draw back is the view angle(Tolerable? Yes! Hai! Very toleranle!)

Top picks for 2017

1) LG C7 - Drop dead gorgeous image quality with perfect blacks, superb view angles and one fast panel for games.

2) Sony A1 - A beautiful TV with an equally beautiful IQ. Only draw back is the price...

3) Sony X90/900/9000 ( as above)

Kaz Hirai willl be proud:)

Saw an X8500D at Abenson and I'm just wondering if the 25k price difference of the X9000E is worth it? Both are 55" models.

Will be using the TV mostly for PS4 Pro gaming and Netflix.

i've been thinking over to get Sony A1E or A1F(2018) 55 inches lang because as i see it that 55 looks like 60 incher probably due to that one slate glass design w/c makes all picture effect.

If you're not going to wall-mount, then you may want the A8F kumpara sa A1E........dahil straight up na ang A8F unlike yung A1E na meron 5 degree slant/tilt.

No i'm not going to wall mount it i like the easel stand design where you see is all picture its stand and speakers are virtually disappear. that's what makes this oled panel so unique.

Yes, the present design of the A1 makes it look bigger than it actually is...However, you may loose that “illusionary” advange when you get the 2018 model bec it adapts a more traditional design approach....

Do note partner, that my GF got the A1 for me all based on the aethetics of the TV...That was all there is to it...but for IQ?...The much cheaoer C7 will do more than just fine.

Good luck:)
