4K Upscaling Software for HTPC
« on: Dec 04, 2017 at 03:13 PM »
Hello pips. . Anyone used their HTPC for your 4K UHD LED TV?

Have anyone used their HTPC for upscalling 1080p to 4K?

What are the software and hardware requirements to do it?

Thanks inadvance pips.

Most playback software will scale to 4K if you're running that resolution. Just make sure that your hardware is adequate.

That depends on what kind of scaling you're after. If you plan on doing extensive CPU or shader-based post-processing, then the spec requirement would definitely be a lot higher. If you just plan to use Quick Sync, PureVideo or UVD for most of the heavy lifting, then it can be a very low spec sheet.

Currently using HTPC for 4k HDR TV

For 4k HDR playback at minimum, use GPU with 4GB of RAM, so minimum NVIDIA model is the GTX-1050ti.

As for the software for playback, I used the Kodi or MPC-HC & add-on codecs I read from AVSForum (LAV, MadVR etc) & lastly "Movies & TV" from Win10 pro. 1080p movies looked pristine on either of these media players. My preference is the MPC-HC.

Btw its a lot cheaper if you go the NMT route. I also used Minix U9-H.. 1080p movies on Kodi ayos din.

Tama si Boss Stagea, if gagamitan mo na ng "shaders" post processing, laggy na ung HTPC ko, the CPU reaches 100% utilization.
