Entry level atmos av receiver
« on: Feb 25, 2018 at 01:39 PM »
Anyone here got suggestions for an entry level 5.1.2 atmos/dtsx av receiver with hdcp2.2? Budget is around 20-25k. I am thinking about the denon x1300 bs onkyo 656/646. By the way my speakers are wahrfedale diamonds, specifically diamond 155. Thanks

By the way I am currently using a Pioneer Vsx 524k.

would you also like to try auditioning the onkyo 474?  this is ATMOS 3.2.2 with DTS:X.  instead of having your current rear surrounds in its original position, configure/position this pair as atmos heights.  474 may be around P26K but you won't need to buy any extra speaker pair, thus recycling your current 5.1 speakers for this new AVR =)

Nice. That clears my mind on the need to buy new speakers just to enjoy the atmos surrounds. so the Onkyo 474 is available in the market? what else besides the onkyo that does not require new speakers? Thanks.

The Denon x1300 could also be a good choice. From a friend's house I listened to his Denon AV receiver though an older model and the sound quality was good in both music and movies. Medyo on the "Warm" side.

denon x1300 user here with wharfedale 8's.  so far so good but i want a brighter setup this time.

i will be getting the klipsch RP line this week for full atmos setup.

as far as the feedback of some friends, denon is best with bright speakers like klipsch/polk.  onkyo best paired with warm speakers like wharfedales, elacs, etc.

My Onkyo receiver sounds great with my Klipsch speakers.
