AMD Ryzen as an HTPC
« on: Jun 08, 2018 at 02:45 PM »
been holding back for some time on building an AMD Ryzen HTPC & now with it's APU's out i'm thinking of building one.
Has anyone here used a ryzen+APU as an HTPC? would it be sufficient to play 4K UHD's or a dedicated display card is a must to go that high.
planning to use a micro or mini itx case.

The hardware decoder should be enough for standard UHD formats. The built-in encoder/decoder (VCN) is among the best available. Make sure the board you're using has an HDMI 2.0b port. Software support should follow over time (applications like PowerDVD 18 are yet to support it for UHD Blurays, for example).

Thanks for the input, i'll keep that in mind.
I have an old Liteon BD rom but i'll be getting a pioneer or samsung brand, sayang wala na yung Slot-in type na gaya ng dvd ROM nila, i would like to still use my old slot-in dvd rom pero ide type sya  :o

I tried playing a 4K UHD on my PC using Potplayer/ GOM/ KMplayer but none can play it though BD25 are ok.
in potplayer it say's there is data/ content but it needs certain decoder or plug-in.
