Topic: Use floor standing speakers for ATMOS height?

Hi, I am planning to get a Dolby ATMOS receiver. I am wondering if I could use my extra floor standing speakers as atmos speakers mounted on my ceiling?  Apologies for the weird inquiry.

para makabenta ng mas mahal, walang pinagkaiba sa mga "certified" na eqiupment, nagbabayad lang ng sila ng "fee" para ilagay yung logo/name sa product. yung iba pasado daw sa standards kaya designed for that certain technology.

yes, design and function, sir..  when they say "Atmos speaker" or Atmos-enabled speaker" it means those are the ones with ceiling-reflecting function.  even Atmos AVR's has a matching configuration/set-up if you'll use that special kind of speaker.

otherwise, any direct reflecting (bookshelves or floorstanders, as the case of our TS) will do as long as you place it appropriately - as speaker heights.  hindi Atmos speaker tawag sa kanila. "heights speakers" na.  or ceiling speakers -- na dapat talaga install sa butas sa kisame kasi wala siya baffle.

I wonder if the next audio codec will require speakers sunk into the floor and pointed to fire upwards. That way the listener will be fully enveloped with sound and the recording engineer will have the full freedom of creativity to pan sound in every way possible.

but back to topic...FS to be mounted on the ceiling? totally doable but will be very expensive in order to achieve the aesthetics and to ensure the safety of the room occupants.  Better to sell and get ceiling mounted speakers.

Kung tallboys from htib kayang kaya i-mount sa ceiling magaan lang kasi. But if it's a real floorstander I wouldn't even think of mounting it overhead.

A cheap and easy alternative is coaxial car speakers. You can get a pair starting at P2k.

Thank you so much for the input guys.  The out-of-the-box idea came when I didn't want to spend money for additional speakers and just reuse my existing extra pair of floor standers. Also years ago I saw posts here of floor standers (as front channels) placed on their ceiling.  Will reconsider selling it na lang siguro and get bookshelf/ceiling speakers. :-)

Thank you so much for the input guys.  The out-of-the-box idea came when I didn't want to spend money for additional speakers and just reuse my existing extra pair of floor standers. Also years ago I saw posts here of floor standers (as front channels) placed on their ceiling.  Will reconsider selling it na lang siguro and get bookshelf/ceiling speakers. :-)
