Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival
« on: Jul 28, 2018 at 12:37 AM »
Sometime last week, news broke that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was in development, with a black actress set to play the lead, and Joss Whedon serving as executive producer. The announcement drew mixed reactions on social media, among them an aversion to seeing anyone but Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon et al. play the Scooby Gang.

The new series' showrunner and writer, Monica Owusu-Breen, has finally commented on the backlash by tweeting that "There is only one Buffy. One Xander, one Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Tara ... they can’t be replaced. Joss Whedon’s brilliant and beautiful series can’t be replicated. I wouldn’t try to. But here we are, twenty years later, and the world seems a lot scarier. So maybe, it could be time to meet a new Slayer ..."

The tweet hints that the potential series could be a continuation, rather than a reset, of the original series and that the Slayer in Owusu-Breen’s iteration will be a character we haven’t met yet.
