We are never safe lol
But it good to have the extra safety Lalo na sa mga priced equipment natin - you'll never know when lighting strikes! Twice!

Weiduka line conditioner?

Alam ko baka hindi makatulong sa safety ang line conditioner in terms of high voltage and voltage spikes.

Wait for others to chime in. They may have a different idea. Ang alam ko kasi sa line conditioner, it removes the frequencies or cycles from our power line other than the 60hz AC.

for me, line conditioner means,

1. isolation transformers to isolate your setup from meralco, the galvanic isolation helps a lot...
2. emi/rfi filtering using ferite chokes and X2 caps..
3. NTC resistors in series with the line after the fuse...
4. MOV's or metal oxide varistors to arrest line surges in excess of 240 volts, right after the fuse..
5. line snubbers composed of a resistor in series with a cap right at the socket outlets..

all of these then gives you better peace of mind...

i am also human....;D ;D ;D

1. isolation transformers to isolate your setup from meralco, the galvanic isolation helps a lot...

an EI core 240vac input to 240 vac output, isolation from the meralco power source gets rid of ground loops and minimized shock hazards, sizing should be the sum of all the power consumptions of your gears tallied, do a load schedule so you know what capacity you need.. EI cores are not wide bandwidth and helps in the emi/ rfi issues..avoid toroidal power traffos here...

Quote
2. emi/rfi filtering using ferrite chokes and X2 caps..

at the secondary side, heavy gauge wires on ferite, can be toroidal or EE types sink up rfi's that may be present...

Quote
3. NTC resistors in series with the line after the fuse...

these are round disk types that has a resistance of 4 to 10 ohms when cold but gets hot when current is passing thru it, this causes its resistance to go below an ohm, this device helps to lower turn on current surges....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermistor

Quote
4. MOV's or metal oxide varistors to arrest line surges in excess of 240 volts, right after the fuse..

also a round disk type, this devices is an open circuit when ac voltages are normally below the threshold voltage f=of the device, rated for 250 volts means it is not activated at voltages 240 volts and below, but becomes a short when activated at voltages above 250 vac.....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varistor

5. line snubbers composed of a resistor in series with a cap right at the socket outlets..

http://www.cde.com/resources/catalogs/igbtAPPguide.pdf

for three years in a row, i have displayed this at the Dusit show, placed in a corner, was never meant to call attention to itself, safety of your gears is the raison d'etre for this line conditioner, no, it does not make your system sound good, only safe...

sad to say, so called line conditioners sold in the market is lacking one or more elements than the setup i mentioned....

How much kaya ang Isolation transformer for 1500 watts?  My system,  if I remember correct eats up around 4 amps at 220v  when I am playing  louder than usual.  It can play louder, pero it is a scary experience already so I rarely crank it to insane levels.

do not expect too much that the line conditioner will improve what your hear in your system, indirectly if power line garbage can be filtered out from entering your system and at the same time power line garbage generated inside of your system is kept away from meralco, that will be indeed make for a better world...

What if you have a surge protector then connect a power conditioner. Would it help?

The MOVs are consumable diba? AFAIK they degrade a little bit after taking surges until eventually a surge suppressor turns into just another extension cord with a switch on it.

yes, they are, and they break, just like NTC's, but the good news is that they are easily replaceable..
