It's a PD-S505 with a lot of tweaks I made myself through a lot of research on the net.  I like this player due to its stable platter mechanism.  Haven't seen any innovative transport from other manufacturer's eh.

that's nice bro. perhaps we can schedule some sort of a shoot out in the future. hanap muna tayo ng ibang owners ng cdps na ka-level ng Usher CDP mo. I know the NAD C542 is a step down model compared to your Usher CD-100 but i can join the A-B comparison if you and the others won't mind.

any owners of CDPs out there who may want to join the shoot out?

Thanks audio slave,
Anybody can join the shoot out, maybe let's not limit the reference specs to 96/24. Anybody who made modification in their CD players can join. Maybe thru this shoot out, expensive & branded players can match by any ordinary CD players because of modification and we will make a new thread for CD mods...that's a great help for the member. Lets make the list:
      1. USHER CD-100 - odyopayl
odyopayl

like speakers and amps, i think the cdps can impart the most recognizable and cognisable sonic differences in an audio sytem. if you can readily tell the sonic signature of a particular brand of cables and interconnects, with much more reason you can easily tell and distinguish the sonic quality of a certain brand of a CDP. one doesn't need to have a "golden ear" in order to detect some differences between CDPs. moreso, if you'll listen to them side by side   ;)  ;D ;D

yes of course audioslave, my point is, so long as the cd player uses burr brown and wolfson microel.. dac chips, i'm happy with it.  but i'm narrowing my choices to rotels and arcams.  the deciding factor will be my budget, availability and how it would match with your amp and speakers.  and yep you can only distinguish their sonic differences if you compare them side by side.  but that rarely happens because not all stores carry brands at the same time.

a good option will be a shootout like stated on this thread.

cheers  8)

Montage at Greenbelt 4 also uses an ARCAM CDP for its testing of CDs and SACDs.  Also saw an ARCAM HT receiver being sold at Powerplant's SM appliance store for 80T.  Seems Arcam is starting to be visible locally.

These ARCAMs presumably support CDtext which I like.   But is their video circuitry defeatable?  Do they come in black?  Thanks.

yep av_phile! it comes in black, i know it's your favorite hehe
black facade similar with rotels, but buttons are silver with green displays
though not as simple (# of buttons) as rotels

arcams should have been around locally but there are few dealers offering them and only a few audiophiles are aware.

Maybe, we need to hear them side by side. Which is better DAC from Wolfson Microelectronics or DAC from Burr-brown?
Agree, we are the consumer we need to know which is better.

 ::) :P ;D

This is quite interesting. I'm based in Davao but I would have wanted to join you guys and see how my 15-year old Revox B226 compares with newer CD gears. I have other players but they sounded inferior to my B226s. Ang dinig ko, mas malapit ang tunog nito sa analog (vinyl) than with digital. In other words, humihinga. The DAC is old, TDA 1541, but a review of it posted last year on the web was encouraging. I was so impressed with it, I bought 2 units (one from the States, the other from Electro Systems in Makati) roughly 10 years ago. The other one stopped breathing last month. It would be nice if you would use test, or demo, CDs of Sheffield and Chesky. Or, maybe, Reference and Linn.

I am looking for a new CD player, in the 15K range. My current player is an old Sony CD player. I know I have to upgrade when my Pioneer 655A (universal player) sounded better than my CD player when playing music CD's. It will be connected to an Onkyo receiver/Denon 1804.

Any recommedation? (I have been looking at the Marantz and Denon CD players).

Try NAD C521BEE...it sells at P13,500

Mga Sir, this might be very interesting Idon't care kahit maging kulelat ang player ko it's important na malaman ko na pangit pala player ko ng mapalitan na...hehehe (baka sayang lang ang oras ko sa pakikinig).

Who knows akala natin OK na CD player natin but with this shoot out we will know that we need some improvements on the parts by upgrading parts or any hardware modification from experience tweakers right?

But there are variables to consider such as support electronics, speakers and environment. Correct matching and ideal speaker placement would still be the bottom line.
