How about Emotiva (high wattage), musta matching nila? medyo kapos na ako sa pera khit mag RA1520 ako.. :(

For me, match ang emotiva and rx series. Match sa sound, match sa price.
I heard some ss amps that sound like tube and emos are not one of them, they're neutral sounding. But the class-A's are a little bit sweet.

As for RX1, testing side by side sa MX3, malaki different sa lahat eh. (MX3 win), pero try ko ulit using ibang cable at IC.

Note: isang 64yrs old na babae, isang 7yrs old na babae at ako, lahat kami iisa ang comment. pero still will try ibang cables...

thanks

Ohh I see... Thanks for the comparisons :)

The way i see it, ndi lang siguro pasok sa taste mo yung MA sound, and maybe you prefer the Mission house sound. :)

From the looks of it, you prefer warm/laid back sound over one that is near flat in response, and you most certainly have an aversion for something that peaks on the top end.

Cheers :)

This thread has been awfully quiet. Anyway, Monitor Audio has a new series, MR.  It claims to be an evolution over BX.  I wonder if anyone has listened and compared the two.  I was able to audition the MR and it was impressive.  Very clear vocal.  Very good mids.  Smooth low.  Seems to be a good option over bookshelf speakers with the same or even higher price.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new receiver for my MA BR5s. I use it mostly for movies (90%) and for concerts (10%). I was originally thinking of Yamaha or HK, but I am open to other brands... Any recommendations?

Also, any good shops that offer Yamaha and HK at reasonable prices? Thanks!!

How about Onkyo - better than Yamaha and HK. We (there was another PDVD member who also happened to be shopping for a receiver) did a "shoot out" at LIS when I was auditioning for a receiver, and the Onkyo sounded better for music and especially movies, no "fatigue" factor.

Thanks for the advice. Would you know what Onkyo model was being tested? Does LIS carry all three models?

How is Onkyo as a brand? How is the quality of the build?

I would rate Onkyo "up there" among leaders in AV Receivers. I bought the entry level Onkyo 313 for a second set up and been a happy user - the most important factor to look out for is "listener fatigue" especially with the sound effects for a home theater, Onkyo, for me, manages this best. Yes, LIS carries all models, for all leading AVR brands, which is why we had the chance to do the side-by-side demo/shoot out.

By the way, would you recommend certain mininum specs needed to drive the BR5s properly?
