Hi,

Thanks.  :)

tried it and it works fine on my 676a.  i think depende rin sa quality ng divx file mo.

I understand yun quality thing, pero nabasa ko na hindi nila makita ang subtitle (parang naka-zoom ang intindi ko).  Weird yun.  Kahit ano pa naman ang quality ng video, dapat kita pa rin yung subtitle, di ba?   ???

Anyway, kung okay ang DivX nito.....AYOS!   ;D    Thanks.

i think choosing between the two great players is a matter of budget, personal use and priorities...if you are into collecting SACDs (and of course, DVD-V) and want to play them with justice and realism, then no need to be skeptic...go for the Philips....and if you are a collector of SACDs and DVD-As (and DVD-As), go for Pionneer... I got an email from Pioneer Singapore and was told that Pioneer is not converting DSD to PCM, thus, they are using Motorola chips for its DSD...so they say...leave it up to you...but whichever you choose, no thing to lose as these are two great and legendary innovators in the digital world....the best in their own right.

Missing the svideo connection is manageable but not without the toslink/digital out. that will make the 5500s not a viable option for the serious home theater fan.

It has digital out via coax, but not toslink.

I went to the singapore web site about 676A.  Didn't see the Built-in DTS decoder.  Does it really have one?

if you want to upgrade the firmware of the 676a, there are numerous sites offering the firmware. most of them are for the 575 but its basically the same model. However, be careful as you can end up with a dead unit. Did the update myself yesterday. our model is 2.01, i upgrade mine to 2.10.

Hi daigoro,

Did you update your 676a to this Mtz v7.1 firmware? Did you see the enhancements. e.g. Equalizer, Bass Boost, Super Bass, Treble Boost.

Thanks...

You can read the details of the changes and procedure for the upgrade, there are two kinds of firmware, original and modified. By the way, the firmware is for the the 575a which is exactly the same model as the 676a. Most of the changes for the original firmware have something to do with Divx playback.

http://www.pioneer.wassberg.info/english/Pioneer_DV-575A_FAQ.php?question=Firmwares

PS: updating to the higher versions of the original firmware might lead your unit to display region 3 rather than region 0. however, there are procedures in that website on how to remove it. Also, never turnoff your unit during the upgrading phase and make sure that the cd with the firmware is readable as this procedure can make your unit non functioning.

Anybody bold enough who tried this upgrade, kindly share your experience :).  How'd you do it, will it work if I follow the instruction as indicated in the website ???  Is it really compatible with the DV-676A ???  I really want to upgrade the firmware of my 676A but I'm afraid I'll make my player unusable :'(.   I'm particularly interested in the Equalizer, Bass Boost, Super Bass, Treble Boost and other added functionality the comes with the new firmware.

My other concern is that the upgrade may reset the regional coding of my player to its factory setting (region 3) which currently can play all region and RCE discs.

Yung ibang naka try na please post here how you did it and also if you notice any improvement.  ::)

taggart,
i think my previous post answered your concerns. I already did the update myself but don't take my word for it, the site i posted already gives a very good explanation of what to do.  Just make sure you burned the cdr or cdrw properly and heed the warnings there. If you haven't done something similar before, i suggest you don't do it. There were instances wherein other people did not heed the instructions during the upgrade and ended up with a dead unit.

gastador,
if you are really concerned with your warranty, i would suggest you use the unmodified firmware that are available. our units here come with version 2.01 while the latest official firmware is around 2.09 or 2.10. I still have doubts on 2.10 based on what i read. The changes in the firmware are better explained in the link i posted. However, using the official firmware will revert your region setting from 0 to 3. However, i tested RCE encoded R1's even with the Region 3 setting and it still played them meaning that the region setting is not really activated. I just used the modified firmware as there are new features available that are not in the official firmware.

Complicated pala ang pag upgrade.

Delicate din pala, parang nung Na-OPEN line ko SAP 2002 phone ko.  But only did it when the warranty expired.

IMHO, the DV-667a is an all-arounder for me vs. the DV-676...the only advantage of the DV-676 is the Divx Function plus the additional 2-bit (10-bit vs. 12-bit) in the video...thanks again to JT for the inputs and the recommendation!...what's so good about the DV-667a is the Audio DAC, using Burr-Brown...this is an excellent CD transport for Audio...especially if you have an external DAC...thanks! 8)

Bro if their only difference is the Divx capability of the 676 and the Burr Brown DAC of the 667 --  it seems that i can live without the divx, and prefer to have the 667 for its Burr Brown DAC for audio purposes.. what do u think?

bakit kaya di pa bumababa presyo ng 667a? I saw some old stocks at Anson's mahal pa rin ang price tag :(
