Otcho,

Nice setup. I really like your conrad MF5600 (120x5). Observing your bedroom setup, how do you adjust your volume?

Have you tried bi-wiring your Valdus 300 speaker? Some says it improves the sound.

To Levi,

Thanks.  Yung Promac DVD has  output level control sa remote, meron pang onscreen equalizer na bihira kong gamitin.

To Levi,

I hope I got it right.  You have a Promac DVD then you connect it directly to a 5 channel Conrad Johnson MF5600 power amp without any preamp ( How? )and you only adjust the volume using the output level from the remote of the promac?

To Racio,

OK ang set up mo, way back 8 years ago nag high end rin ako sa Philippines, I was using an audio research SP9mkII preamp saka classic 60 amplifier, binili ko ito kay Lito Hilano he takes care of the audio research sa
Philippines, I don't know if he is still doing business there. Your cary audio pre amp did you buy it from Mang JB at Makati Cinema Square? I bought a pair of  speakers unity audio from him a long time ago. Maybe you know si Eric Lim of Audio Den, I used to buy straightwire cables from him before. I went to his place noong nagbalikbayan ako last year.
PS Are you still going here sa Sydney to buy some cartridges and records?

Hey Bonjit,

Thanks pare. It’s always good to know a fellow tube sound aficionado.  ;)

Yeah, Lito still carries the Audio Research line here in Manila. However, mejo nag-shift ang concentration niya into pre-owned audio gear. Most of his tubed AR stuff are at his house in Dasma. But Lito still maintains a stall at MCS called “Sensible Audio” and another in Paco. Incidentally, I bought my Thorens turntable from him. And then I acquired my Cary pre-amp from “le’ tube-god” hyperaudio. The VTLs btw, were from JR Pe of “Listening in Style” at the Shangri-la Mall. And the SF ‘Tinos I purchased from fellow member manila (thanks a heap JA! ;) ), who just upgraded to the Stereophile's Class "A" $10-grand-a-pop SF Guarneri’s (I know… wow talaga!)  :o :o :o

Pare, I can’t recall seeing Mang JB’s store at MCS, I guess he moved on to another place.  :-\

Sydney? Yup! I’ve already paid our resort accommodations, so everything is still on a “go” status this Aug. Hopefully, I’ll get to see you then pare.  :D

Later then,

hello guys!nakikisaling-pusa lang...here's my humble set-up...

dvd player - pioneer dv-s737
a/v receiver - denon avc-a10se
tv - toshiba 50hx81 rptv
front speakers - tannoy revolution rc3
center speaker - tannoy revolution rc center speaker
surround speakers - mission 70ds
surround back speakers - tannoy revolution r1
amplifier for surr.back - pioneer a88x(old model)
sub-woofer - velodyne ct-100

i got the denon in hk for P53k when the lowest price i got for that model here in the phil was P92k last year.slightly used pa yung offer sa akin.if anybody is interested to know where i got it,it's in mongkok - michael's audio at nelson road.yung avc-1se was selling for P78k habang ang bentahan dito nun was around P125k.ang paki-usap lang nya sa akin noon was to let his store be known to other filipino buyers.i guess, ito na yung pinaka-favor ko sa kanya in return for that nice discount he gave me.
more power to pinoy dvd!  :D

downtown,
wala na sa akin yung resibo.and actually,i also bought the velodyne ct-100 for P23k and the pioneer dv-s737 for P24k last june 2001 from him.and if i remember correctly,he gave me scorpion cables(bi-wired)for my front speakers-for free!kukunin ko dapat yung avc-a1se kaya lang sobra na ang lakas di ko naman magagamit.
so,yun muna masasabi ko for now.
goodluck! :)

Ive been a HT and Audio enthusiast for the past 6 years and I had my share of bad purchases when I was starting out because I dont know that many people who are into the same hobby.  Its great to have a website like this to discuss things through an open forum. Hi Bonjit,  kilala mo pala si Jayvee Lauguico a.k.a. Mang JV.  Yes, during the late 80s he was among the first audiophiles who had a store in MCS selling hi-end stuff.

During the early 90s he transferred to a bigger slot in MCS (which had a dedicated listening room).  At that time, he was on a roll, being the exclusive dealer of Unity Audio Speakers, Cary Amps, and Rebel Turntables.

Hey Racio, you can still visit Mang JV at MCS.  His store, named DELCO, is at the corner, near Pancakes.  He is really not into audio anymore but more into selling Cellphones and Cable (I think).  Like our friend and guru Hyperaudio, he is a tube lover as well as a turntable enthusiast.

ali mall due to Audiophile store,  Cinema square, Upscale in Natl Bookstore q.a., Audio Den.
Ngayon lang uli ako bumalik sa AV hifi since I was engrossed with cars before.
Nagsawa na ako sa home hifi. but now, I have the AV  fever again

I think I am one of the few people who started having home theater with the Yamaha AVC30 1986.
The first Yamaha Dolby surround amplifier.   I then had the Yamaha RXV470 pro logic 1993 and the Yamaha 420 DDigital in 2001.

Would eventually upgrade the speakers if ever I have the extra cash.

MS, might he be sellin' his ol' audio stuff? Perhaps he has some NOS tubes lyin' around, eh?  ;)

Hi MS  :)

So Mang JV is still doing business at MCS but not selling hi-end gear anymore, I remember the time eight years ago I used to frequent his shop and audition his Cary Audio amps and preamps connected to the unity audio speakers with of course Mang JV's favorite cd Jennifer Warnes. It was very easy to drive the unity audio speakers thats why I bought it. I might pass by his place if ever magbalikbayan ako next year. Thanks for the info :)

i got the denon in hk for P53k when the lowest price i got for that model here in the phil was P92k last year.slightly used pa yung offer sa akin.if anybody is interested to know where i got it,it's in mongkok - michael's audio at nelson road.yung avc-1se was selling for P78k habang ang bentahan dito nun was around P125k.ang paki-usap lang nya sa akin noon was to let his store be known to other filipino buyers.i guess, ito na yung pinaka-favor ko sa kanya in return for that nice discount he gave me.
more power to pinoy dvd!  :D

ferdie, mas mura talaga AV receivers dito, congrats on your purchase. pero babawian ka naman sa speaker. speakers are 30-80% more expensive (on the average) compared to the prices in manila (as posted here).

to get to michael's audio, just take go to Exit E (Bank Centre) at Mongkok MTR, cross the street, and go down the stairs to the basement on your right side. there's at least another 4-5 shops above body shop (right outside exit E), but some of them are sketchy (kahit taga-hk walang tiwala sa mga yun).
Audio: Cayin MT-45 mkii|B&W 602s2|Gramovox TT
HT: Denon X4200W|B&W 683s2, HTM Matrix, 601s2, GE 525

oo,sinabi mo pa,talagang dapat ingat dahil marami ring loko dyan.
i'm going dyan sa hk this september, maybe you want to meet-up para maipasyal mo rin ako sa mga lugar na di ko pa alam.baka may mga secrets pa ako na dapat malaman.hehe! :)
