Rewind has updated their list of confirmed titles with RCE:

6th Day (The)
All The Pretty Horses
Brothers (The)
Charlie's Angels
Fail Safe*  (*awaiting confirmation)
Finding Forester
Joe Dirt
Hollow Man
Knight's Tale (A)
Patriot (The)
Saving Silverman
Snatch
South Park : Chefs Experience
South Park : Xmas in South Park
Thomas Tank & Magic Railroad
Tomcats
Urban Legend Final Cut

Hope this helps.

I've tried Charlie's Angels,6th Day, Hollow Man,and Snatch with my Panasonic A300 and Konzert DVD.
The Panasonic A300 was unable to access the Deleted scenes of SNATCH. :P
All the above mentioned titles that I've viewed played without a hitch with the KONZERT DVD.(shifted players when the Snatch DVD deleted scenes portion refused to play with the Panasonic) ;D

Hi faye!

Your player doesn't seem to be listed in tested DVD players that can play Regional Coding Enhanced DVDs, though just because it isn't listed doesn't mean it won't work. There are lots of backdoors to get through the RCE stonewall. Better yet, that player may not have been tested.

Not all Region 1 DVDs have RCE. As long as the DVD you are planning on buying has no RCE, then it should be safe. Non-RCE DVDs can play on any multi-region or regionless DVD players. I take it that your DVD player is one them since you infer that you can play Region 1 and Region 3 DVDs.

Anyway, for more information on the DVDs and DVD players that are affected by RCE, head on over to the site posted by Phobos above. Good luck!

Welcome to PinoyDVD!

Before anything, what is the title of the R1 DVD that you're keen to buy?

Thanks for reporting that Final Fantasy has RCE, multi.  :) Also new to the list of RCE titles is The Animal - although this still has to be confirmed.

If it's true that the R3 Final Fantasy costs P999, then my R1 copy cost the equivalent of P968.49, so it would only be "a lot cheaper" sans shipping costs.

My Antiquated Panasonic A300 was able to bypass the RCE of Final Fantasy R1, although this unit failed to bypass the Snatch R1(special features).
For info. ;)

I was in Glorietta last Saturday, and I overheard 2 employees of either Pioneer or Philips talking how the DVD GLADIATOR R3 had RCE and reverted back the DVD they modified to become Region free.
This is my first time to hear a Region 3 DVD, actually having RCE and reconverting the hack, any other experiences here?

Some discs from Fox, Buena Vista/Touchstone/Miramax, MGM/Universal, Polygram, and Columbia TriStar contain program code that checks for the proper region setting in the player. In late 2000, Warner Bros. began using the same active region code checking that other studios had been using for over a year. They called it "region code enhancement" (RCE, also known as REA), and it received much publicity. RCE was first added to discs such as The Patriot and Charlie's Angels. "Smart discs" with active region checking won't play on code-free players that are set for all regions (FFh), but they can be played on manual code-switchable players that allow you to change the region using the remote control. They may not work on auto-switching players that recognize and match the disc region. (It depends on the default region setting of the player. An RCE disc has all its region flags set so that the player doesn't know which one to switch to, then it queries the player for the region setting and aborts if it's the wrong one. A default player setting of region 1 will fool RCE discs from region 1. Playing a region 1 disc for a few seconds will set most auto-switching players to region 1 and allow them to play an RCE disc.) When an RCE disc detects the wrong region or an all-region player, it will usually put up a message saying that the player may have been altered and that the disc is not compatible with the player

Hi Morph! Sorry for the late reply...

I'm not so sure about that. As far as I know, there's currently no way to hack the RCE out of the current crop of DVD players... You can try the RCE FAQ at DVD Talk, I'm sure it'll be much more helpful... Try the link here

'Rented 'Ghosts of Mars' last night :( and again this screen of message and map appeared :'(.

That's the third time >:(, after '6th Day' and 'Final Fantasy'.

I guess, I (either) have to look for a way to crack this RCE or sell my DVP-S305 and get a(n) RCE DVD player.

Why the @#$% can't they just make it code-free?!  >:( Like VHS and LD?!  ;D

kyle,

No offense Rak-Rak, pero hindi tama iyang sinabi mo.  Linawin natin: RCE is an enhanced form of regional coding.  It is designed  to defeat multi-region players so that they cannot bypass regional coding.  There are quite a few multi-region players that cannot play RCE discs.  So kyle618's question is valid.  Not all multi-region players can play RCE discs.

I have seen the R1 of American Sweethearts,The Animal and the 6th Day.
My Panasonic A300,Konzert,Amoisonic and recently hacked to multiregion Apex was able to play the above DVD's, so I think(w/ the exception of the Sony mentioned above)it's safe to procure this DVD's. ;)

Guys, I think we (owners of multi-region DVD players affected by RCE) really need to find a way to crack/get around this. That's why we bought region-free players so we can watch DVDs regardless of their region code, right?

Btw, in Page 3 of this topic, Phobos posted a good link re. RCE (and confirmed titles).

Hey dracula

Try mo munang mag-rent ng movies with RCE. Mine is Philips 732K and i'm not experiencing any problem with RCE. I also asked Philps Support before, they said that the worst an RCE-encoded can do to our (Philips) player is to revert back the player to it's original region (which is R3). Well, of course that is aside from not being able to watch the movie. :) Should that happen, they can modify the player to be region-free again, am just not sure if it's for free  ;D Maybe if it's still within warranty period.

Cheers!!!
