how can you tell if the disc is single-layer only?   is there any mark on the disc?

Etched on the inner edge of the disc's data side is a serial number for each layer.  1 serial number = 1 layer; 2 serial numbers = 2 layers.

The fool-proof method is by checking with a computer's DVD drive.

I finally got a copy of Enter the Dragon. Though I haven't seen it before, I bought it nonetheless. I'm very impressed with the transfer and the audio. The Lalo Schifrin score shines in this SE. Great buy for P350... ;D

So what are you waiting for, ubusin na ang mga 2-disc warner boxed  titles.   ;D

Too bad, except for Goodfellas,  most of the titles in that article are not in the sale, or are they?   ;D

I'm actually surprised about one particular title in that article: I wonder why The Band Wagon is NOT included in the current Warner R3 sale, when I got mine at a less publicized Warner sale about a month ago, also for Php 350, anyway.

Weird.

I got this Hitchcock classic for P299 in the earlier sale from 'O' at Greenbelt.   There were 3-4 titles left at that time.  They may have made a mistake pricing it as a single disc.

I got my copy of Strangers on a Train during the Tower/MusicOne sale. for 275. I highly doubt it if they still carry this title.

I bought Color Purple a few months ago and it was a great issue. I think all of the 2-disc titles here are of great quality.

I haven't played my Color Purple, but for me, to own the GoodFellas disc with a commentary track by the real Henry Hill is a landmark event no serious fan of mob films should ever pass up.

I liked the documentary special features, but I wish there were some deleted scenes/extended scenes, since... that's what I usually look for in any "Special Feature" section.

Sulit na sulit.  Any of those boxed 2-disc sets is a great value.  Goodfellas I have and is a must have for any fan of gangster films.

Mukhang mapapbili ako sa mga sinabi nyo ah, he he! Dami kase ngayon nung sale nga mga nakit kong 2 disc titles na kilala color purple, the lost boys, unforgiven, goodfellas, around the world in 80 days etc. pati yung mga single disc nagmura din. Nga pala, how about those single disc priced 299 each ok ba?

The features focuses mainly on the film... i  think your referring to the "Vamping Out" featurette where in it tackles on the make-up effects of the film. Nothing too significant.

I would really appreciate the "making-of" documentary if dianne weist, jason patric and jami gertz  where on it. alas, none of them participated on the documentary.

i hope warner could add more titles to the sale..

to sony and c-interactive,

i think you're missing the point.. if you want to release titles in barebones/low quality print better price them at P70 each..since its no better than the pirated ones :-*

Moderator Note:

Please be advised that all discussions regarding reduced-price non-Warner titles (mainly Spider-Man, to be specific) have been split from this thread and merged with the existing thread on Magnavision's 299 DVDs.

Thank you.

Can't we create a seperate thread on which DVDs to avoid?  This could help us out a lot.  I'm avoiding single-layer DVDs because they often have poor quality pictures and sounds.  I don't care much for packaging, I just want clear and sharp pictures.  How many members here got conned buying Spiderman when it clearly said "dual layer" on the label?

Avoid Interview with the Vampire and Spiderman for poor picture quality.  They're both single-layer DVD.
Avoid Riddick, it's single-layer and it's pan and scan ONLY.
Resident Evil Apocalypse is also single-layer DVD.  It doesn't contain any bonus material except for commentaries and previews.  It contain both pan and scan and widescreen format..... I wonder how they can fit both in one side?  hmmm?  The picture quality isn't all that great either.

If I'm not mistaken, the initial release of Interview with the Vampire on R1 was a DVD-10 flipper, with Fullscreen on one side and Widescreen on the other, and no features included. If the current R3 is single layer and only includes the widescreen version and no other features, I'm thinking the picture quality should be at par with the first R1 release?

Not too sure, though, since I bought the R1 re-release of this title which contained the retrospective documentary/commentary on a DVD-9.

Try the Manila malls like Robinson's Ermita and SM Manila. I've been there last week and I saw Goodfellas. I just can't remember if it's in Astro or Odyssey where I saw the said DVD. :)

I was able to get a copy yesterday at the Video City SM EDSA, they have 4 copies left, I also saw 2 copies at the AstroPlus at the SM Annex Building.

Mr. Hankey is right: i have the original R3 release (in the cardboard snapper case). It is a DVD5 (Single Layer) disc which looks like the widescreen side of the R1 version released in 1997 (ancient history for DVDs).

The menu on the cover of the the new P299 version is different from the one i have.

What about the P299 Resident Evil Apocalypse?  How can they fit both fullscreen and widescreen version in a one-sided disc?

They can fit both versions if they lower the video bitrate. In any case, I wouldn't buy it.

Re Interview, the R3 version uses the same widescreen transfer as the old R1 widescreen/fullscreen flipper. If you can wait, this title is due for an SE version soon. Hopefully next year.
