Timbs, high feedrates are possible with smoothstepper. The idea is to divide the steps as small as possible then transmit burst pulses so as not to overwhelm the motor driver. So 200ipm is not that surprising especially with a large maximum allowable work piece. Eh kung kagaya sa akin na 40ipm lang tapos salangan mo ng 3' x 6' na birch ply eh makatulog ka muna bago matapos. ;D

I rigged mine to have a maximum workpiece of 9" x 9", then reduce the feedrate whilst maintaining the latency. This decision was made to maximize precision so I can mill boards even for vlsi and soic chips.

Kailangan ko kasi pinong-pino eh, alam mo naman behavior ng mga electrons brader lalu na pag may corners... >:D

BTW, ano gagamitin mo spindle? At those feedrates and for aluminum dapat high rpm. Mag water cooled spindle ka ba? >:D
Initially I will be using a bosch 1617evsk router. I am currently looking at several chinese made spindles at ebay with 2.2 to 3 kw rating and their corresponding vfd. But if chance permits and I stumble upon a German made one (sana meron bukas) hehehe then the choice would be clear. God has always been good to me and my family and whatever he has plan for me, I always take.

Great choice in spindle brader. Suggest you check the feedrate if it's 200ipm or 200cpm and lower it too for burr free routing.

I want the water cooled spindles too! And their vfd controllers look really cool BUT, as it is, my setup is (if I may say so) already on top of it's game for it's particular application. Then again, if extra funds do come by I might dive into something new for Abacus Robot.

Likewise, God is good, all the time. Besides, I never would have thought I'd be into these things. God Bless brader.  8)

LinuxCNC brader. :D

As a moderator of the gcode forums I get to try several of the popular CAD/CAM softwares and two things always stands out.

  • If you want a general purpose machine/bot and want feature rich environment and buttons/GUI to rival a space shuttle launch sequence with matching telemetry readings - go Windows-based.

  • If you want a more "purpose-driven", industrial class, no fuzz no hiccup machine then - go Linux-based.

Don't get me wrong though, Windows-based CAM softwares have been successfully packaged along with the market popular machines out there because of the popularity of the OS, BUT, for people like "us"... well, you know what I'm saying. ;)
