that's my understanding from the people i read who posted their experiences with QCPO.. if you're going to have it delivered to a QC addy, please let me know of your shipping experience with QCPO. im planning also to buy online..  :)

i've lived in QC all my life and have ordered a bunch of comic books online also. I only paid 20 pesos (old price, now its 30) for anything I ordered as long as it was declared a small packet/parcel. For me, this meant as much comic book as could be accomodated by the USPS envelope used by the online store.

i've also ordered DVD (X2) from amazon last year and I also just paid 30 pesos (new price na) for it. I just don't know if it's still the case for 2 DVDs.

sir, as far as i know if your order exceeds $50 thats the time Post office will charge you.  Although im not sure of the rates

this might not be the case for all POs.... for QCPO, they don't really read the price (i think) because i've ordered some collector's item comics more than $50 and still i just paid 20 bucks for that!  :D

About the taxes:

Books, magazines, comics, & ALL reading materials (except porn which is illegal) are non-taxable so they won't tax you =)

As for the dvd's, CD's, cassettes, VHS, electronics,& toys, these are taxable items. But if you buy them in very limited numbers like at most 4 per shipment, and if you don't buy them regularly, let's say at most only 3 times a year, you won't be taxed =) But at the end, it's still under the discretion of the inspector since these ARE actually taxable. If you're arrogant and is a pain in the a**, you WILL be taxed =)

Also, the P30 is standard fee for the documentary stamp so that goes to the gov't. If you have a really big package which they put in a big trash bag, you will be charged P 100 which also goes to the gov't =)

I use the QC post office & I buy everything through the net. All the people there are very nice, esp the head inspector. He had never asked anything from me. Pakikisama na lang if you bring them merienda/ snacks sometime =)

Dudes, just treat them with respect =) Good luck!

correction po, not all cards with the visa or mastercard logos are international (although i'm not sure with citibank). Meron kasi akong Allied Bank Visa (this is under the equitable network) and local lang sya pwede

in most cases, online sellers from abroad would require you to fax them a copy of your credit card billing statement (as proof that your credit card is legit) before you could post your first order.  8)

as mentioned in earlier post, the charges are a case-to-case basis (or actually, it's a post office-to-post office basis)  ;)

hi dunforgiven, just a question. my girlfriend just sent me a cd through mail. they used to deliver the cd's straight to my house (the last time was 2002). today though, i received a notice similar to what i receive for bulkier packages (ie toys). i used qc cpo, and i just want to know if i should take precautions, because it looks like they held onto my cd for questionable reasons. thanks!

geeez...  she'll often argue that she knows the value of dvds and can't get away with it even you under declare the package  >:(

saw a lot of complaints on that post office in the newspaper!  hope they would do something :o

i heard also that they have targets (taxes and duty revenues) so they're relentless in appraising the goods  >:(

i've heard about that quota part. i had a horrendous experience with that very hag. i had 2 toys shipped to my office... these 2 toys were bought from ebay and were priced very cheap as they were less popular releases. the hag demanded 1600 from me, citing a bunch of numbers that she wrote down (but which i didn't understand anyway). the toys were declared at $10, but she calculated the taxes for $30. i didn't see the declared value at first, but when i finally pointed it out to her, she told me that she used the shipping rates along with the declared value to compute for duties... which was really stupid, because i know that i paid only $22 for the whole transaction, inclusive of ground shipping. she also did point out that the p500 was indeed a fixed charge, even advising me to bring in more stuff next time to maximize on this (yeah right).

i stayed for a while, hoping to reason with her as i only had 800+ with me that time, when a businessman tried to claim a taiwan trader's directory, which anybody can avail of for free by simply requesting from a website, and the customs hag asked him to pay p2000. she told him that they have fixed rates for those per country. the businessman, obviously peeved at that point and muttering invectives, simply asked to have the item returned to its sender. it was no great loss anyway.

the next people in line were two siblings who received a package from the uk. this contained - get this - 3 shirts and 2 trinkets (i really doubt that they were made of anything precious for the sender to ship them that way). it seemed to me that whoever sent those was an ofw and that they were gifts for the two (i have the impression that the sender was their mom for some reason). the customs appraiser then demanded almost 3000 in taxes! the older sister decided to call the sender through her cell because she was lost at what to do next. they eventually just decided to have the package shipped back, although they told the hag in such a way that they were visibly disappointed/pissed off, to which the hag nonchalantly said yes, with the air of brushing someone off as if she was doing it everyday (thinking about it, that was probably the case).

anyway, after about an hour, we bargained and arrived at p800 (me and my mouth... '800 lang po ang dala ko ngayon e...'). i did keep my cool throughout my ordeal... i don't think she would have lowered the fees otherwise. the irritating bit about this was that everything was legal, receipts and all... although the fact that her computations were flexible only made the whole thing more questionable. i think that if she was actually using a standard method to compute for fees then she wouldn't have arrived at 2 values. i also think that she was in fact working on a commission basis, giving her the authority to actually practice legal corruption. that's the part that sickens me most.

sorry for the length... i have posted this very story on different boards since the incident, and have avoided that post office since, although i really think that something should be done about this.

don't worry, you're not going to have any problem with the QC PO. Dati nakatanggap din ako ng straight delivery pero minsan lang yun, the rest were just notification cards. Ganun na yata kasi ang procedure nila ngayon so sa tingin ko hindi naman nila inipit yung cd mo  :D

Dapat dun sa mga post offices that extort money or those who can't present a decent computation and just give out a random amount.... isumbong dapat sa mga kagaya ng isang tawag ka lang para mabulgar e, at maayos ang charging rates

I get my parcels from the Araneta Post Office.  The charges levied on me are from the customs inspector.  He used to show me a computation with lots and lots of figures and levies.  For a pacjage worth around $60, the levy is around Php1,000.00.  Of course, like everything else in this accursed country we live in, I didn't believe in the computation.  To get my beloved dvds, I offered to pay Php 500.00 without receipt.  Ayun.  When I come in early, around 9 am when it opens, the 2 dispatchers there, Ray and Jun, give the package to me, minus the hassle of "pretending" there's a computation.  I give them my Php500.00 and I get the dvds.  All in a matter of 10 minutes.

With that customs guy, pa-cute ka pa minsan.

what's the SOP for Manila Post office (main)... I ordered a X2VGA xbox hi-def adapter and it came in a very small package that costs something like peso converted to php 4,300... I am being asked to pay fees for php 1,243.

Do you think I should negotiate it down further???

My once beloved Cainta post office is now chargind me P1,200 for something I used to pay P30 for. The worst thing is even the postmaster doesn't know what to do. There was no customs inspector there so if I wanted to complain, I have to head to the faraway country of Pasay to do so. Talk about due process... They just send out your packages with a letter containing computations unheard of, and you can't even complain coz there are no representatives. And lastly, the package did not contain any price declarations, the invoice from Yesasia contained $0 as prices for the DVDs so I was wondering how they computed for my customs duties when there was no price declaration. Lecheng mga hoodlooms yan!

My friend had the same experience before. He was sent an adapter for his Mac laptop and was being asked to pay some huge amount of money. Pinakiusapan niya yung customs hoodloom and he got his adapter for free.
