Yeah, they should be documented also. Even the porn ones in the U.S. are remastered digitally. Sure those films are trash......but they made history.

The generation today doesn't even know Brocka or Bernal.

Jojo does Regal Films still maintain an archive or they sold all of the masterprints of their films to Abs-Cbn?

not knowing Brocka & Bernal? that's really sad...

Regal has copies of some of their movies but ABS-CBN has most of them in their film archives.

We should be thankful to Abs-Cbn for archiving those films, disappointing sometimes because they show it at odd hours, not on primetime.

I was introducing the films of Mike de Leon, Brocka and Bernal, Gallaga and O'Hara to my nephew and niece now and they beginning to grasp it finally. They have to endure them because they can't watch any Harry Potpot movies if they skip it.  ;D

They can't appreciate the black and white Filipino films, I don't know why?! I bet there are still prints of Pinoy films in channel 13  since they are the premiere station during the 70's and 80's. The network is now on sale same with RPN 9.

most of the u-matic tapes ng channel 13 were burned para hindi pasukin ng mga rebelde ang TV stations during the first EDSA revolution that's why most of the old films are gone...

Whoa, how did you find out, Jo?  :o

It was in channel 13 when I saw a very mint ORO PLATA MATA in two parts after the Edsa Revolution. I was not able to see the part 2 because I have a class the next day, they cut it before the exodus scene!

Add to these missing films the iconic teenage movie of the 80's "Ninja Kids" produced by XO films.

Are you sure it was lost? Viva produced NINJA KIDS also during the 80's.

Yeah, and the print is still in good shape. If we talk about that article again, Mt. Makiling sounds cool.

But still a dream up to now.

they should actually do the Mt. Makiling thing... but why didn't they think of this 20 years ago?

Same question that still haunts me, Jo. Everytime I look for a particular Filipino film that can't be find anywhere else.

If Manila Film Center still exists, we could have save more classic films.

someone should ask Cirio Santiago about the films archived at the Manila Film Center... he was in charge of the archive in the late 80's.

I know that someone close to Cirio told me that he was able to archive some of the Premiere films from their vault.

Did the MFC still operates after the Edsa Revolt?

not really... we borrowed a 35mm print of Himala which was shown during a screenwriting symposium at the MFC in 1987 and we went down the basement to get the print.

Most of the 80's films were just abandoned there after the political turmoil in Edsa including the ist SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLE which was complete and uncut.

Now soaked in vinegar syndrome, its now part of NITRATE FILMS.

The one that Cinema One shows has lost scenes.

Nope, Jo. The last scene at the PRIDYEDER episode, Mario Taguiwalo opening the ref as the new occupants of the house saw a bloody head inside!

But Cinema One has the encounter between William Martinez and Emily Loren.  ;D

Yep, it was not William's head. Remember Mario Taguiwalo, the town mayor in MISTERYO SA TUWA?

I just found out that he shares story credit with Peque on ORO PLATA MATA.

of course i remember him... he was the Mayor in Unfaithful Wife and Gina Alajar's husband in The Graduates

the scene was there but it was shortened due to the print's roughness

I can't recall him anymore in Gallaga's UNFAITHFUL WIFE. But he was also memorable as one of the cynical people in Bernal's HINUGOT SA LANGIT.

If we can only restore those lost scenes. I would love to see Peque's 5 hour cut on ORO PLATA MATA.
