Anyone can help???
« on: Apr 24, 2006 at 08:49 PM »
Anyone knows why subs humm?? If it humms, no sound can be heard. My wires seems to be okay.

I am using Onkyo TX DS484, and my active sub is daiichi ASW10DR, I already brought the sub at their  showroom in Mega and was returned without any findings,so sub seems to be okay. Don't tell me I need to replace...hehehe ;D ;D ;D....been thinking about that since. Worries me I might get the same result. Dunno which is which.

Appreciate your help.

I assume there's nothing wrong with either your reciever or powered sub unit.  A low level hum oftens results from ungrounded line level interconnect cables.  Either the ground is not well soldered or not contacting adequately with either the output or input jacks connecting the receiver with your sub. I suggest you try inspecting the associated cables or try changing cables.  I think that's a relatively cheaper option than changing subs, assuming further's you're using unbranded cables.

There are Factors need  to consider:

1. As per advise by Av_phile1 connection, check for your RCA conectors
2. Your Sub Volume? Some amplifiers especially sub-amp have higher THD
3. Check your Receiver Sub Gain? Try this:
     -    Lower your sub Gain (receiver) with higher sub volume
     -    or higher Sub Gain (receiver) and little bit lower Sub volume Check which minimize hums

Hope this help

wires, could be grounded or shorted-circuit.
