hi, guys!

which manner would you best recommend to update your firmware.. thru USB downloaded file or WiFi access?

I might have my 1st Onkyo really soon =))  many thanks!

mas magandavia usb na lang di ko lang alam if yung via wifi if donwload muna bago iupdate wag lang mawalan talaga ng power para di mag kaissue.

i'm thinking of the same =))  thanks a lot, sir!

sa mga nakasubok or parating update via USB, do you see the AVR goes "verify" mode before its actual update execution?

TIA!

i've finally break the bank (joke!) and got myself an RZ720 -- actually, current US/UK price is higher than the price I got it locally.  perhaps it's made in Malaysia but I'm yet to recheck.  so I find this a bang to my buck!

this is my 1st taste of Onkyo flavor and I liked it a lot already after only a few hours of testing & tweaking.  I haven't watched any full-length movie yet nor blast it to my heart's content.

ALL are positive so far and I would highly recommend this to whoever wants a macho gear!
- pass-thru 4K video well
- pass-thru Atmos/DTS:X well
- i'm loving the THX Cinema sound mode -- but will use it only on none ATMOS/DTS:X materials
- gave a better juice to my speakers
  - also gave my flacs even mp3's a better experience

and here are just some of my "newbie to Onkyo" I can live with-observations:
- its OSD puts you on a 720p reso screen. it doesn't do screen overlay where you can still see what you're watching when "Set-Up" button is pressed
- no ECO mode -- only ECO (Auto) on HDMI standby mode
- it gets hot (as mentioned I haven't blasted it yet)
  -  it has an internal fan anyway, so I'm yet to see when will it be triggered

I haven't done a firmware upgrade, more tests to come and I'll try it's AccuEQ Room Calibration, soon =)

The one being sold by waxx the rz820 is way cheaper than the dealers price given to stores. If you guys are planning to get an onkyo, that is the best deal so far. Srp is at 72990 and its just released almost 3weeks ago.

were you able to buy already sir?  which one have you got?

i sure think both is good.  just be at the store to listen and compare both according to your taste... fair warning only to check both model's forums for possible issues encountered by actual users =)

My HTPC somehow had some quirks and I was playing a file with DTS. It showed in the receiver Multichannel. Is this still discrete 5.1 or 7.1?

press the Info button on the remote -- repeatedly, if needed.  you will see the actual # of input ch of your source.

I experienced the same... with my laptop's MPHC and media player's Kodi/SPMC, it says there Dolby AC3 but is decoded by Onkyo as MultiCh AAC. it has 5.1ch anyway and I can hear audio separation between speakers =)

Ok great! I'm using Splash Media Player. I saw the culprit. For some reason my activation code got erased and I had to input the code again for the premium features. Without the premium codes the audio is limited to stereo and 5.1. When I choose 5.1 it showed multichannel on my receiver. After inputting the activation code the option of HDMI audio was present. Clicking it showed the actual audio stream (DD, DTS, DTS-HD, etc) on my receiver. Thanks!
