Anyone here having issues with audio inputs from a skycable HD box?  I recently got a NR555.  Upon setup, audio was passing through HDMI without issue.  Then a few weeks later audio stopped coming out. When I checked the information, audio input was assigned to analog. Even when I switch the HD Box to other HDMI ports, the settings follow.  Anyone with the same issue?

isolate it, sir....

- change HDMI cable
- use other HDMI devices like media player, BD/DVD player  -- see it it pass-through 6ch audio to NR555
- check HDMI setting of your SkyCable HD box
- check HDMI setting of your NR555 -- also make sure PCM fixed is turned off, if it has that setting mode

if you have a friend you can borrow his AVR and connect your HD box with it

Before I make an update, I already tried other hdmi cables. I also tried my android media player which worked fine. I also tried other sky cable boxes which worked the same.

Now for the update. By tsamba while playing around with it, I noticed that the problem occurs when I turn on uhd color mode on my Samsung TV. Samsung actually activates this automatically. When I turn it off, sound comes back. So it's pretty much working albeit I have to lose a function on the TV.

Now what I don't understand yet is that I don't need to to disable uhd color when I use other sources like my android box. Anybody know why? I'll have to post this question too on a Samsung TV thread if there is one.

I find it weird with Sammy TV's video setting, the HDMI audio pass-through gets affected (???)

Samsung TV "UHD Color" is slang for HDR.  since your Skycable box isn't HDR, then it's only right to set off that TV function when source is non-HDR.

anyway, how's your connections?  which of the 2:

Skycable -- > HDMI --> Sammy TV --> HDMI ARC --> NR555  or
Skycable -- > HDMI --> NR555 --> HDMI ARC --> Sammy TV

I connect it via option 2. What I find weird is that my minix media player is decoded properly even with uhd color on. I even tried using the hdmi cable of the minix and connected it to the onkyo. Same issue. Audio input becomes listed as analog. But when I put back the minix player it becomes hdmi as audio input.

Just as additional background I came to discover this function as the culprit when I was figuring out whether the arc hdmi port had anything to do with it. So as I was switching the hdmi ports on the TV, sound came on on my receiver with the TV off. When I turned on the TV, it prompted to activate uhd color. When I did, sound dropped out. When I deactivated manually, then sound came back.

depends on your preferred application.  is it mainly for movies?  Onkyo should be good!

between models providing various amp juice, it'll depend on your current speakers.  are they the power-hungry types?  if not, an Onkyo AVR should be ok with 60-80wpc 2ch driven.  even if you set them loud with a movie, Onkyo can power them without restraints.

previous user of a RZ720 here... and currently NR474 3.1.2 ATMOS/DTS:X capable AVR (a friend's AVR, just letting me use it).

I sent you PM, sir...

if you were satisfied with music on your SR373, then I think the higher model Onkyo's you've mentioned are all with AKM DAC and they would be a very much welcoming and improved performance on music.

good luck with your AVR hunting, sir!  =))

The latest onkyo RZ 730 is the best value for money for both movies and music, its 7.2.2 atmos/dts x HT with great audio sound for pure music.  I got it at very affordable price..  so far, for me, this is the best HT i have ever had.

I was supposed to get this.  already ordered for one before end of July.  but a financial need arose.  and a friend offered his NR474 for me to use =))  so I can delay my plan for 5.1.4 hehe

am also waiting for RZ730 to be put on top of 10 best AVR for 2018/2019 -- in favor of it's price per feature ratio.  we'll see about that. soon...

How can i set the onkyo nr 676 to display the audio signal being played? The dolby atmos txt on the display panel shows when i press the audio button on the remote but it returns to the default display showing the connected device as in “stream box/ bd/dvd/aux” etc.
