I hate DVD with stickers seals (mostly imported)...
« on: Jun 13, 2006 at 03:20 AM »
I hate DVDs, mostly (all?) R1 or other imported ones which has multiple stickers to seal the DVD and ensure that it is brand new.  Mostly on top with the name of the DVD and on the other two sides bearing 'security device enclosed' markers.

Sometimes they are easy to remove and a non-issue, but other times, inferior stickers make it hard to remove cleanly, leaving finger print or blade marks (which you use to pry it off), and sticker residues...   you then have to take extra time to remove...

I hate them... after all they are shrinked-wrapped...a single seal would do.  And that Security device Enclosed could easily be pasted on the shrinked wrap.

The DVD I opened last night (Millions R1 - 3 stickers) is one such DVD, which is the reason for this post... just venting my frustrations. :)

I know someone who will remove the top sticker and stick it inside the case. But dump the security sticker. Mine, I carefully remove the security sticker, then open the case with enough force to tear the name sticker. ;D Result, most of my dvd still have the torn name sticker attached. ;D
There's something to learn everyday

When I started collecting DVDs I also totally removed all the stickers. But later on I realized it is better to just slice the stickers in the middle & retain them as such on the case. :)

when i was just starting collecting, i always remove the white security seal and all shrinkwrap. after months of transaction with collectors, i learned from master benny this trick of cutting the white security seal and maintaining them. im not sure why i adapted it. then, i realize... it's a silent label saying .. "Hey! I'm Original!".

valuable practice for OOP seekers, you can tell right away if the item is indeed original.

If i can remove the label sticker whole, i put it inside the case. If it tears, I throw it away. I used adhesive remover to remove the excess adhesive.
Security labels? i throw them away. No point in keeping them.

It is only recommended for "Amaray/Keepcase DVD", however it is another issue for Snapper Cases.

yes.. stickers on snapper cases sometimes damage the artwork during removal.

I simply use a blade or my own finger nails, if I leave those blackish greyish marks from the stickers, I simply get scotch tape and try to take it off, it works.  :)

With the few R1 DVDs I have I just use a cutter to slice through the sticker seals.  My only problem with some is after a while, umaangat yung stickers.    So I just took out some.  ;D

Thanks for all the tips.  I tried Aldrin's cut it in the middle thing on my new Groundhog Day DVD and left the sticker on.  It does looks cool...

Warner Snapper cases R3, has this white sticker that leave residues, and since it's on cardboard, I don't try to remove them na... I paste a piece on transparent tape over it, so that it will not be sticky...  I also hate those WB logo stickers that they put on the plastic spine of a snapper case.  I feel that given time, those might be dust magnets.   I should be putting them in plastic bags soon...
