CD player problem.
« on: Jul 11, 2006 at 05:17 PM »
I have a Pioneer CD player which is more that 10 years old. I forgot the model but this has a 6 disc CD cartridge were you put the CDs upside down(data side up).  This is bought in japan (made in japan also) during the early 90's. It had been encountering problems lately there are disc it cant read even the orig ones. I tried to have it clean using the a CD cleaner (dry type) but I hardly notice any improvement.
Should I have it serviced for cleaning? I tried to open it once to no sucess. The lense is well enclosed in a compartment. Is it still advisable to have the lense replaced?

Need your advice guys. TIA

I think the problem is the lens/magnet alignment. Consult your trusted electronics service technician for repair or troubleshooting.

Yes, lens can be replaced.

Basic lens replacement at Pioneer Service Centers range from 2.5K-3.5K and depends on the unit's model.

Sir jojo, if your in my shoes what would be your decision? replace or buy a new one na lang?

This is a vintage pioneer, it even doesnt have a optical out.

If I were you (strictly my decision alone). I'll get a new one.

I don't want to alarm or do harm to Pioneer but before the end of the millenium, I have bought 2 units PD-204, 1 unit PD-205 (not sure), and a Jukebox CDP - all of which only had an average of 2 years service life. So you can say that I had been a "suki" of Pioneer service centers from west avenue qc, to 5th avenue kal, to valenzuela branch.

And what's worse, I had a 12-cd disc changer installed in the car and to my dismay - worked only for 12 months after which I had the lens replaced for 2.5K and the darn thing only worked for 8 months. Warranty for automotive units is only 6 months. Darn it.

There was a time (when pioneer logo was an omega) when all of our gear was Pioneer, I loved that setup. Mid 90's I bought a Pioneer amp, EQ, two units dual tape decks, reverb processor, tuner, etc. all of which only the EQ and amp are now working.  ;D ;D ;D Oh well, me and my luck.  ;D ;D ;D

Again, strictly, if it were me - I'll get a new one, and a different one for that matter.  ;D

HTH

maki thread jack.

i am thinking of resurrecting my old philips cd721 player. 2 years ko na di ginagamit dahil di na magbasa ng cd. "NO DISC" palagi ang sulat sa screen even when a new/good/not pirated cd is inserted. pwede pa ba tong ma repair? or mas mabuti pang bumili ng bago.

thanks

try the usual cleaning of the lens, focus and tracking adjustment may help too.

i think you're referring to the pioneer pd-m701, i have the same one and my unit conked out around 2000.  but the thing is kinalikot ko kasi and i made the mistake of leaving it playing with a defective disc loaded,  had it repaired not until 2002 and it cost me around 3k to have the lens repaired...

sir, kadalasan e nasa lens assembly yung trimmer for focus or intensity.
try mo open yung tray then pull the power plug para ma-expose/makita mo yung lens assembly.
the usual precaution for laser lens when active "try not to look directly into the lens - baka madamage ang mata mo"
good luck    :)

Kung magpalit naman ng lens - would it affect the sound quality ba or hindi?
