I have been using the nextbase 656 for years now and it played almost all p discs i can throw at it (the purple 3 for 100 type). However, it finally conked at me and i need to buy a new player. Are the new nextbase players (NB-800/890/895/etc) as good as the old 656 in playing p discs? (the really cheap ones that can be bought in quiapo na mahina ang quality)?  Yung Toshiba XDE kasi ng friend ko nde kinaya. Laging nag ski skip and madaming artifacts while the 656 ng isa ko pang friend kinaya yung low quality quiapo discs.

i'm also in the market right now for a new dvd player.

sayang yung XDE kung ganun.  you'll have to sacrifice 24p and "better" upscaling for better jack sparrow compatibility.  i might go this route as well.

by the way, how does the PQ compare to Pioneer's DV-610 or Philips' DVP 5996k?

they're within the same price range, right?  which would you choose among the three?

Hi! I'm really hell-bent on purchasing xde kaso bigla akong nag alangan about warranty and the likes. Mga guys may feedback na ba kayong narinig about the life span ng xde? Kasi yung mga sellers sa marketplace na galing U.S 3 months warranty lang. Ang feedback ko sa nextbase matibay daw yung xde kaya may nakakalam po ba?. TIA.

i can only compare it to a non-upscaling philips kase yung yung other player ko.

upscaling capability is great on the nextbase!  just feed it with a decent source and it will perform well.  i used a copy of iron man and it upscaled it perfectly.

wala pa naman s'yang hindi napeplay sa mga natry kong dvds.

so far so good (*crosses fingers*)

the nb-895 has that feature, sir.  aside from that, it also upscales up to 1080p thru HDMI.

has anyone tried using an external HDD (like WD Passport) on their nb-895?

ang natetesting ko pa lang is a usb flash drive eh.  2gb.  gumana naman.  hassle kase magburn ng mga divx files everytime i want to watch them sa tv eh.

Possibly the FAT32....it's the only type of format that the DVD players with USB can read. ;)

I think it's the 1Tb that says on the box "for Windows and MAC".

Yes, it has optical output.

Bought my NB-895 at SM Appliances Marikina last Saturday, for P 3,995 with 0% interest over 3 months on HSBC credit card.  With free HDMI cable na.

The smooth glossy finish of the casing makes it look spiffy and expensive.

Tried it out on my Panasonic 32" LCD TV via HDMI.  Looks great even at 720p.

Medyo hassle lang kasi yung USB slot is on the side of the unit, not in front.  The LED display window is also very tiny and has very little info. The remote's keypad layout is somewhat haphazard, and the user manual is kinda amateurishly done.

But hey, the performance is the important thing, and so far it's been good.  More responsive and with better build quality than my Xtreme 1080 HDMI player.

kung bibili ako ng HDD and download Blu-Ray movies, could nextbase that is connected thru HDMI to a Full HD LCD read/play/display the movie like a BR player? because if it could, then i will not buy anymore a Blu-ray player.
