nad c542 problem
« on: Oct 03, 2006 at 04:55 AM »
hi,
i have a problem with my 2 weeks old cd player; when i turn off the player with a disk inside and then turn on again, the player can't read the disk and there's the "no disk" message on the display.
What can i do? Do you think that i can solve the problem with a lens replacement?
thanks

Good chance that lens is stuck where it was when you turned it off and won't go back and read the disc header info on the innermost track.  You can just eject the disc and close again.  That should rattle the lens mechanism a bit.

If only 2 weeks old, you may want to have this returned to where you got it.

thanks for reply,
i've returned the unit but they told me that there wasn't any problem...
I'll try to use te player whitout leave CDs inside when it is turned off. I hope that there aren't other problems.
I'll stress it and i'll see what happens!

hi,
the problem persists... Do you suggest to change the lens? Or have i to ask to change my unit?

A good unit shouldn't mind having  a disc inside when you turn it off.  The lens eithers retracts to its former position before shutting off, or goes there when turned on.  The way I see it, your 2-week old player deserves an outright replacement.  Either that or at least have it checked and adjusted by the authorized service center FREE of charge.

I am just curious why they say it's OK when your complaint is real.  It's important that you show them the problem.  Sometimes this happens, transporting the unit might have released a stucked lens.   I suggest you leave the unit for their observation.

hi,
i took the unit to NAD costumer service: they changed the mechanics and the lens too and applied a NAD patch for cd reading. All took only 24 hours! now the payer seems to work fine... I hope  it continues so
