B&W CM series
« on: Feb 18, 2002 at 11:09 AM »
I would just like to know your opinions regarding the B&W CM series speakers. In terms of pricing, they are almost 2x the price of the 600 series. Are they worth it?

I have not critically tested the series but if it is already at that price why don't you add a little more and go for the CDM series which sounds and looks better.

IS2000,

I would like to say beforehand that my opinions are based on my listening way back around September last year. Back to back with CDM1NT, latest release CM series then.

As far as im concerned, if your hooked on the CM series and your budget refrains you from going up to the next level, the CM series is damn good on it's own. When I listened to the CM then vs the CDM1NT, I needed to go ask the dealer to plug it back to the CM because I didn't hear any huge difference whatsoever. There were differences with the character but they were hard to say which were the more "accurate" to the recording. The CM series had less forward treble (this could be down to equipment matching), midrange is almost as good as the CDM1NT and the bass is almost at par! The CDM1NT excels in the soundstage depth and sonic detail but there's not alot in it. I would say, if you are really serious and have quality electronics, go for the NT series but if not, the CM is a very good speaker itself and looks good with those golf ball style port flares! :) Just my 2 cents, your ears are your BOSS! :)

First of all, the CM series is wood not a poser like 600 series, If you check B&W's website they have phased- out this lovely creation of simplicity by Morten Warren, there's a big difference in performance and dynamics, has better drivers pretty much replaced the CDM line, if you can swing it go for the 700 series. Last time I checked Audiogon CM series are being bought out right away since some would like to have in their collection, i've seen a used 9/10 condition sold for $1295.00 , for a brand new of about $1400.00 so the numbers really tell you that it has good resale value for a phased out product. Try to do a blindtest on both and CM & 600 series and your ears will decide.

CM1 finished a close second to the Epos M12.2.  Now I've heard the Epos and I used to own a 602S3.  The M12.2 IMO is definitely worth twice the price of the 602S3 (more in fact) so I guess the CM1 is worth it too.

B&W 602 to CM1?? in music??

worth the price IMHO....  not even close in comparison......

BTW, to make it sound better, you need to hooked it to a powerful amp........

one of our member here has one for pure music application and hooked in Nad Integ. amp and it sounds great......

Buhayin ko lang. recently got the cm 5 s2 the highs are so much refined than the s1. The finish is absolutely gorgeous (gloss black). The balance is very good, carefull in positioning though. Don't get too close to the wall to avoid dominant bass.

That gloss black finish scratches easily... very easily. I learned the hard way. Haha.. I suggest cotton gloves or microfiber cloth and handle very gently. :)

I use a plinius p10 alternate with a musical fidelity m6 prx off a cary dac 100 that I use as preamp. Looking at the hegel hd30 or the ps audio directstream junior as alternate dac. Emotiva bro, diba pang home theater yan?

Also have a mundorfed cayin cs55 I'm not using.
