Anybody noticed that shipping direct to the Philippines for items ordered from Amazon.com today is only via Expedited International Shipping or Priority International Courier?

I think the worst part is this will almost surely make your purchases go over the $50 maximum allowable "duty-free" price the local post offices mostly impose, increasing each purchase by $10 PLUS over a thousand pesos in customs duties and all those extras they add onto their computation.   >:(

They use to charge between 8-4 US$ on standard shipping. Now it would cost US$ 17.98 for a single DVD or US$ 33.94 for 5 DVD using Expedited International Shipping. :'( :'( :'(

Here is Amazon's reply to my query why the Standard Shipping Option isn't available to the Philippines anymore.

Hello from Amazon.com.

We have recently changed the shipping options offered on our website for orders being shipped to some international destinations.

Because packages shipped there by non-trackable methods frequently did not arrive in a reasonable time-frame, we now offer only Expedited and Priority International Shipping to Philippines.

We realize that the available methods can be expensive and apologize for this inconvenience. However, we felt it was in the best interest of our international customers to ensure that the items they ordered reached them safely and on time.

Please know that Amazon cares about its international customers and is working on ways to improve your service and selection.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

Got exactly the same answer to my inquiry to Amazon.  That's what I'm afraid of.  And now it's happening.  I did mentioned this years ago.

Darn...this is the effect of those who take advantage of Amazon's "no questions asked" policy when it comes to supposedly missing shipments.  Now we all suffer.

Napansin rin cguro nila na marami rin gumagamit ng 3rd party shipper like JAC.   By having no standard shipping option, they force Philippine customers to use services like JAC.    That way, they minimize the cost of lost packages.

aren't the items bought there insured? in case of lost package, there wont be any loss at amazon's part because the insurance will cover it

Yup, I think they are insured.  What I mean though is their total business from RP-based customers.    I think Amazon would really prefer if RP-based customers use JAC as shipping option.

Even without standard shipping option, some will still use the other more expensive options....and some will still report missing packages.   But with more people using JAC, the cost of lost packages will decrease.

With this Amazon's move, my purchases will definitely decline.  Imagine paying almost $20 for a single DVD?

I hoping amazon UK will not adopt the policy of their US counterpart  :-\

Something strange just happened. I always have a lot of stuff in my Amazon shopping cart. Lots of them in the "save for later" section. I regularly update the shopping cart, deleting stuff, adding stuff and then every now and then, I buy some stuff.

Today, for the first time, I checked the shopping cart and wala laman except for 2 items I added today. Oh no. Now, I don't recall all those good items which I put there. Really bad.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.

Same to me Mark. All my saved stuff are no longer there. I can't recall all the past items saved in my shopping cart. Now I have to search one by one or try to recall the items I supposed to buy. Wasting time talaga. :(

Probably, Amazon has upgraded their system & did a "reset".

Amazon has a written policy that items stay only 90 days in the shopping cart but I'm pretty sure that some items in my cart were less than 90 days old. Furthermore, this has never ever happened before. Some items have been in the cart for more than a year. Maybe, you're right - they did a "reset."

In any case, its a real disaster.

Yes, we can also save those iterms to add into shopping cart later. Last week I just added a few new items & suddenly now both items in cart & "saved for later purchase" all vanished into thin air. Luckily I can still recall some of those recently added but for those more than 3 months I'm out of luck.  :-\

I still got mine though, both Shopping Cart and Saved Items To Buy Later  ;)

Don't you guys organize a wishlist in Amazon. So even during this "reset", you can easily put them back. Also helps in monitoring sudden price drops  ;)

I always use Amazon's shopping list and then add everything to the shopping cart when checking out. I never had a problem of items being deleted from any of my lists.
