Hi abj104,

Welcome to the forum!

Since that is a yam 620, you might want to try out Mission speakers. (that series is supposedly a bit bright, and a soft dome speaker is a good combo for it).

You might also want to audition B&W speakers, they too make a great combo for Yams. :)

You can also try to audition other speakers with your receiver. Trust your ears.  Good luck!  :)

Why don't you audition the JBL SCS-135/138. It's a 5.1 speaker system which is good for small rooms. It costs around P18k.

For more info on the SCS-135/138:

for the 22 - 25k budget

front - m71 / m72
center - m7c1i
rear - m70

imho - these are better than the wharfedale diamond package. stretch a little more to get the m73i floorstanders for the fronts

but that's just me ;)

thanks  to all !

hi iceman90,

i have read and heard  good feedback of wharfedale speakers but i haven't heard  of mission that you have mentioned (i know mission brand but not actually heard one) .
where can i get the reviews of it ,could you refer one site.

i'm also interested on some reviews coz these will surely help me balance everything aside from actually auditioning and hearing it.
thanks in advance.

if your room isn't so big, why don't you try the mini/sattelite speakers of Mirage. i think its the AVS series. i saw a set in Image (G/F Harrison Plaza) which is on sale for around P25K. don't be fooled by their size, though. they sound much bigger than they look. here's a link:
http://www.miragespeakers.com/products/currentproduct/avs/index.htm

honestly, if i still had my rxv-620, i'd give these speakers a try.i think alfred uses these speakers with an rx-v800 so you may want to send him a PM for his feedback.

if you have a bit more space, go for the wharfedale diamond 8s. if you're not that keen in using your HT setup for a two-way stereo for music, you may want to try b&w dm303s: generally, medyo matalas kasi masyado yung yamaha-b&w combination. entry-level Missions are also on the bright side.

happy hunting!

try this site:

http://www.ecoustics.com/Home/Home_Audio/Speakers/Speakers_Reviews/Home_Theater_Systems/alpha.html

i myself started out w/ a pair of diamond 8.1's and a diamond center. when i wanted to graduate to floor standers - i tried th 8.3 & 8.4. it was also then that i heard mission speakers and it was a no-brainer

but on a very strict budget get the 8.1's all around, the floor standers aren't really that good - again that's just my opinion

Try the diamonds with high current amps like the ones from NAD and rotel, you'll be surprised how good the diamond 8.1's sound :) but I agree, for the diamond series the 8.1's are the best of the bunch.

heh... they cost abt 1500 usd for the set. including the sub..

but yeah.. they're good for small to borderline medium size rooms. i've listened to them. and the sound imaging's very nice... for something their SIZE and PRICE (per pair)... like 500 usd a pair or something.. and the nice thing is that you don't have to worry anything about speaker positions... stick it against the wall... on top of a table.. anywhere. and it still will sound nice..

They're called Omnisats..

http://www.avu.ca/pdfs/P7-mirage.pdf

here's a better pdf file for that. price is in canadian dollars..

i'm also considering the 8.1's, my question is can HK AVR2550 (40wpc) really drive the wharfedale diamonds?

MBtwenty, not advisable due to the 8.1's low sensitivity (86 db), its kind of ironic that these budget speakers need mid-priced amps to sound really good!

You can always contact Mr. Sonny Tuazon of The Home Theater in Tordesillas St. Salcedo Village or Rene Rivo (nyperaudio) near Cash and Carry for the best prices of B&W speakers.

you might want to give the speakers that nirvblakr offers a try as well  ;D anyway the avr2550 is a great sounding receiver, it sounds better than the avr2000 which i previously owned.

if you can wait for the acoustic energy evo one,  i've heard the 2550 driving them and i find it a good match.  you might also want to try the infinity kappa 200.  it's a little expensive though.

Personally, I could dish out over 10 brands to you -  All of them rated by various a/v and audiophile magazines. However, before buying you should ask yourself these questions:

1. What type of material will you be playing all the time? CDs or DVDs? What's the %age 60-40?
2. If you're a music person. What type to do you listen to? Pop, Jazz, R&B, Classical?
3. If you're a movie buff. What kind of movies do you watch?
4. What type of room do you plan to put it in? Size?
5. How far are you willing to go or spend for your system?
6. Do you want it all at once? or Piece by piece?

Why do I ask these things?

1. Every speaker has their own set of advantages and disadvantages, so the type of material you listen to really matters.
2. Music people pay more attention to the mids and highs, and less on the bass unless you're a Pop and R&B Person.
3. Movie people pay more attention to BASSSSS and how much SPL the system can do.
4. Speaker placement really matters because total sound quality is really 50% Equipment and 50% Room. Believe me, when you buy your speakers it won't sound the same as it did in the demo room.
5. There is NO perfect system, because each person's tastes are relative to eachother. The holy grail of audio is yet to be found. So be prepared to spend extra tweaks such as good cables, speaker stands, and room treatment materials.
6. There is nothing better than instant gratification. However, buying somthing based on just the BRAND and the sales pitch of the audio guy is kinda dangerous because you may be buying something you may not like at all. A really good pair of stereo speakers will often do the job at 1st, get a center or sub on your next paycheck.

So before buying here are some tips:

1. Know the sound you're looking for. Bring your favorite CD (Original please not pirated), something you're incredibly familiar with. Take your time when auditioning speakers.
2. You're spending LOTS of money for your speakers, so don't believe everything that the sales guy tells you.
3. Price is not a good determinant of sound quality, and the brand isn't everything. Example, Toyota has a Camry, and also has a Revo. Both of them are Toyota cars but suit a different purpose and budget.
4. Magazine reviews are good. Qualified user reviews are a better. (visit www.audioreview.com)
5. Test music first then movies afterwards. And ask the salesguy to turn off that distracting TV. Just imagine that you're blind, that way your sense of hearing is at full attention.
6. THX speakers have poor highs, they sound terrible for music. They're only good for movies. If the salesman tells you otherwise, I'm gonna kick his ass for you.
7. After listening to everything, buy the one that you're most comfortable listening to.
8. Lastly, make sure your amp or receiver could handle the speaker load. You don't want to burn your speakers on the 1st day.

If you have other questions, feel free to e-mail me anytime... [email protected]
You wonder why it still not good enough after spending P1M.
