I have heard Stax electrostatic headphones from a foreign friend 2 years ago.

Most electrostatic headphones like Stax and the top AKG require significantly more amplification than your standard voice-coil driven headphones because electrostats need to be energized by electricity in order to move; think of how an electromagnet works.  Think of them miniature electrostat speakers rather than just headphones; You will need a head phone amp to power them, and they take considerable time to break-in.

In terms of comfort, these things feel like ear warmers because they literally get warm as you use them (i'm not sure about the newer models though).  You may not like the sensation.  Stax head bands are also very stiff and uncomfortable.

In terms of sound, These type of headphones compromise warmth, weight, and euphonics for the detail and accuracy.  They are more analytical than enjoyable.

They will provide superior transient response and transparency compared to conventional headphones.  This may be perceived as brightness by some.  In terms of bass, its bass is too lean for my taste.

tnx sir wraith. i really cant remember exact stax model i heard before - lambda or sigma? basta square fones and its got separate amp connected yata sa headphone jack of the tube amp. anyway i was so enamored with the sound kakaiba talaga sa mga dynamic headfones ive tried.
sana may nakapag-try with ipods.  :)

I'm no user but really love to own one, as these are the everest of CANS out there. But very Expensive & hard to drive thats why they usually come w/ their own matching headamp. I think there are newer models like the SR-207 w/c is a bit below the $1,000 level.

I already have the Stax amp, 5 pin connector. Ang hindi lang magandang review was hindi daw comfy sa ulo. Hehe! I would prefer din sana, yun malayo sa ears yun headphone.

May nakita akong 307 or yun Lambda below $400. I'd love to own one too kaso it would be my 1st time to try headphones kaya i'm looking for a cheaper option muna.

I do not have that much knowledge of dynamic headphones Sir;  I just needed something to use when my little boy is asleep.

It was the one that appealed to me among the plethora of available headphones in a store that I went to.  Since it already came with an amplifier, it was the one I chose; and I do not intend to use it outside the house either.

Nelson, Hifiman is a good starting point for planar magnetic headphones. Entry level is the HE-400S. Then you have the HE-400i, HE-560, Edition X, and HE-1000 (top of the line). My HE-400s I got for P13600 at Egghead when it was first introduced. It has gone down since. Lately the HE-400i has gone down in price as low as $299 in some places.

These class of headphones are known for their hyperrealistic wall of sound and planar bass. The lower end models of course lack in some respects.

I am very happy with my HE-400S. This was my first venture into serious head-fi. My iPhone 6 plus can easily drive it. Sound scales up when I use my AK100 dap and Schiit Asgard head amp. Soon when my adapter arrives I can use my APPJ and 2a3 amps.

Thanks Gino! I've just checked their website. All of them have 3.5 or 6.35mm plugs. I'm looking for the 5 or 6 pin type.

Squealer na mu! :D
It's the portable in-ear version SR-001 Mk2

Still a different experience compared to its full size brothers.

Got me a pair from sir Mozilla. Everything you guys said are true. Bass is lean but very tight. Very dynamic. SPL at 3/4 volume level is just right though I feel it could be better with a slightly more powerful amp. Parang walang headroom though it's just right naman. Walang clipping or distortion maski sagad ang volume.
Tonality is just right for me. Never bright. My kind of highs pero slightly kulang pa sa "bakal sound". Mids are to die for. It never lost control over orchestra music.
