Pano yung compute ng VAT? for example 100$ yung value nung item? yung 100$ lang ba magkaka VAT or pati yung shipping fees kasama sa lalagyan ng VAT?

i think the vat would be charged based on the shipping fee regardless of your item's price.

ie:

$100 but weighs 3lbs = $5.5 x 3 = $16.5 x 12% = $1.98 total = $18.48 + handling fee of $5 (i think) grand total = $23.48

been a while since i use jac, but i would assume this is the computation (roughly)

This is basically correct, except that the handling fee of $5 (and any or all other fees if any) is included in the computation:

$16.50+$2.50 (PinoyDVD promo handling fee until when I'mnot sure) = $19.00 x exchange rate x 12% = VAT.

That was how my charges were computed for the package I picked up just yesterday.

you have to go to one of their branches, makati or megamall and personally register with them. you can also try email (nut response might be longer).

as for proof as pdvd member, they dont normally ask already, the fact that you know of the promo means more or less you are a member.

when i did it, i just went to their makati branch, told them i am a pdvd members, once i did the form and they got a photo copied id of mine. registration is done, i did received an email from them informing of the policies and procedure afterwards.

Good to know sir.  Mega din ako.  Ang reason na binigay is their office daw is being pressured by the BIR.  Di daw naniniwala sa declared income nila kasi mababa.  Tyaga na lang sa VAT.  Mas mataas pa rin gastos sa gas compared dun sa VAT.   :D

How do JAC charges the handling fee? Is it per shipment irregardless if the items arrived within the same week? Or one handling fee for all items arrived within the same week? According to JAC SM Megamall, they ship 3X a week from US-Phils. Handling fee costs $2.50 per shipment or converted to more than 2 liters of gasoline. If you have 3 separate packages arrived within the same week its still costs $ 7.50.  And you pay 12% VAT on top of that. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

I reserved a $650 watch from Germany, I am afraid if I have it sent directly to the Philippines customs will tax me huge! Usually Johnny Air just charges me P1,100 for any watch that I ordered from the US. So I am thinking of just sending the item from Germany to Johnny Air USA. Hindi naman sila nata-tax sa JAC USA ano?

yes it's per shipment, but if your items will arrived the same day it will only cost one handling fee. I think they have cut-offs, I recently had multiple shipments and I only pay one handling fee, shipment was one day apart. Maybe you could directly email JAC regarding this. hope this helps :)

Just to dip into the discussion re: sales tax thing: As long as the merchant doesn't have a physical presence in the specific state (warehouse, brick-and-mortar stores, corporate offices), the state does not require them to add sales tax on their merchandise. Mainly the reason why NY charges sales tax for Amazon purchases delivered anywhere within the state.

Same thing with eBay merchants registered as businesses, I got charged for sales tax because I found out (after the fact) that the seller actually lives a few hours away from me.  :)

Hope this helps clarify the confusion :)

What exactly is the new rate for PinoyDVD members now?

I ordered an E-book reader and some memory cards and they're charging me $7/lb + $25 surcharge! I'm confused. Just last month, the rate they gave me was $5.50/lb. Their staff in the US and here don't seem to be well coordinated either.

A lot of inconsistencies here that need clarification. Thanks.

$7 per pound? I talked to Trixie and she said that when I pick up my package next week, I will be charged $5.50 per pound.  She computed everything for me and my order is around 5 lbs. I'll pick up my package in Megamall.

Hi siennagold,

I also receive my packages via their Megamall branch and I always got a $5.50/lb rate, but then just last week Analyn from NY branch said they'll be charging a $25 surcharge for an ebook reader and it will be $7/lb. They couldn't even explain to me the logic/reason behind the surcharge for an ebook reader when all the other electronic items (i.e., game consoles, GPS receivers, digicams, videocams, cellphones, etc.)  I had them ship for me before weren't charged anything else on top of the $5.50/lb.

What type of items did you have shipped if I may ask?

Do they now accept high valued items and have the same fully insured during transit?

Last time I checked, they still don't.

I think there is indeed a $25 charge for an e-book reader. I guess it falls under the category of Ipads which also gets a $25 charge. I just based it on the email I got from Trixie.

Here's the email I got from JAC regarding their rates and procedures:

I. U.S. TO PHILIPPINES RATES

A. INBOUND SHIPMENTS - AIRFREIGHT  (Cargo Service)

NY to MANILA  -  $ (USD) 5.50 / lb NON-ELECTRONICS  (minimum chargeable weight of 2 lbs., $1,000.00 value & above  is subject to 5% additional clearing cost based on invoice declaration, negotiable)
                           -   $ (USD) 6.50 / lb ELECTRONIC, Auto parts, taxable items

Plus : Handling Fee  :  $ 2.50 shipment (pick-up) / $ 10.00 (for delivery)
Plus : $ 50.00/unit  (additional clearing cost  for a laptop & two way radio) / $ 25.00 - Mobile Phones & Ipads
Plus : Inland freight (if any)
Plus : 12% Vat (Philippine Peso)
