The Big Bang Theory

Anyone watching this new sitcom about nerd geniuses and one hot girl neighbor? It's hilarious and I quite love the obscure geek references that make you feel like you're in a secret club -- if you do get the references.

Fourth episode's not as brilliant and funny as the first three but still OK. My favorite's Howard(?), the "smooth" game geek with the funny hair who speaks nine languages.

I lost it with the Stephen Hawking bit.  ;D  BTW, it's been picked up for the season.

High brow humor like that in an American tv show is, to my mind, really fresh. Only the Brits even dare to touch intellectual humor.

Yeah that was funny. This can be pretty vicious in an offhand way  - - -they're spot-on when it comes to my perception of  RPG get-a-lifer nerds, though the real thing's probably not as funny. Is there a fifth episode out already? As far as American TV comedy's concerned this is one of the funniest I've seen so far , if this keeps up, it could go right up there with my other favorites, My Name Is Earl and  That 70s Show.

Oh, so it's a good series? I wasn't keen on watching it, I didn't like the pre-air kasi. Or maybe I just didn't get it. ;D

But now, I might check the episodes out...four so far, right? Got curious too coz it's the first comedy series approved for a full season for 2007-2008.

It definitely has potential that's for sure. 5th episode will be out this week. I've been watching too much Arrested Development, 30 Rock and The Office since the laugh track somewhat bothers me. Hehe...

I particularly love that small exchange referencing Isaac Asimov, robotics and the Foundation series. :)

Yes it does, doesn't it? I got thrown the first time ,too but eventually that's what I like about this . . .it's old school. I sort of wondered at first if all this geekery would  go over a lot of people's heads but looks like it's clicking. Only hope they don't water the geekery down as shows that get popular are wont to do.

After watching this week's show, I'm tempted to wrap my speakers in plastic and see if I can recreate what they did. That looked cool.

The first season was kind of muddled and not particularly good. The writers never gave Penny (Kaley Cuoco) that much to do and concentrated more on giving Sheldon the spotlight as the season progressed. Even Leonard and the rest of the geeks didn't seem that important anymore and I was surprised the powers that be gave this show another season.

But after watching the first three episodes of the second season, I'm glad they did. You can see how balanced the show now is between the Geeks and the Girl and some of the jokes, including the insular ones, are actually funny now. It's a great lead in to How I Met Your Mother.

Still bothers me that the laugh track bursts every 5 seconds when it doesn't need to be. American audiences, what can I say?

It was quite amusing seeing them play Klingon Boggle. But not a strange one for me. I actually know people who speak Sindarin and Quenya.

Sorry you out-geeked me there, had to look up those languages, hehe. I've read LOTR but don't remember those terms. Okay friends mo, ha. Do they also LARP? hehe.

Hehe, not really friends. It's actually my brother in law and his friends. No LARP for them though. But I do know another group of people who used to LARP.

Pre, eventually everyone wants to  do a "Spock" so it doesn't matter. Hehe... Best episode of the season so far.

Oo nga e! I'm hoping Stephanie Jacobsen would also appear at some point in the future. That would be awesome!

Oh, and the George Smoot cameo is just too cool for school! An actual Nobel Prize winner doing a sitcom?! It's one for the books.

Sheldon is the show's satirical blunt instrument and he can whack at things and make quite a dent in my opinion. I loved the episodes where he made fun of such buffoonish and inane phenomena as street slang ("s'up"" . . .peace out!") and internet lingo (I can has, I heart . . ., LOL ). He's the character I relate to the most. Obviously. Or maybe not.

Howard's pretty funny, too.

Oh, and I think I'm in love with Penny.  ;D
